Locked out---almost

this toolbox on first inspection seems to be a very well-built piece of equipment, save for one minor problem. on first inspection I opened the top drawer, which was not locked, and found a metal bar loose inside. When I tried to open any of the other drawers they were locked. I took the key and tried to unlock the drawers with no luck and realize that the metal bar was what connected the front lock to the locking mechanism at the back of the tool chest. This bar is made about a centimeter two short so that is not fully engaged into the lock and with mild pressure can be taken in or out. Bumping and jostling in shipping was enough to dislodge this connecting bar. I was fortunate in that the top drawer was not engaged in the locking mechanism and I was able to, with some difficulty, replace the connecting bar. It seems to work at the moment but I am worried that this bar may fall out when I have the chest locked and move it.

Poor Service after Sale and Delivery

|

Original unit arrived and was damaged. Was replaced 2 weeks later, but it had no key. After 3 calls over the next 2.5 months finally got a key. First call - was told key would be sent (after 6 weeks no key received) Second call - no record of my first call and no key was never sent (they could not help me because I had no part number and the part number is printed inside a drawer I could not opened ). Third call finally got someone in the parts dept that was able to send a key.
Finally able to fully inspect the unit and the top and all left side drawers would not open and the right drawers only open if you fidget with the key some. Called about the problem as was told it was to late to exchange it, and it can't be repaired. They blamed me for not getting the key earlier. Apparently their theory is that it had nothing to do with not them not sending a key with the chest or having trouble getting the key sent, which delayed my ability to fully inspect the unit which had absolutely no external signs of damage. I have a Sears Credit card since I was 18 years old in 1969, I have always had Craftsman tools and tool boxes. However, Craftsman is no longer reserved for Sears only. I will no longer purchase large expensive items from Sears since I can only do it now online. I know know why Sears almost went bankrupt. I am sure that this is a good item, but their Service "****** BIG TIME". Only order small items online. Large expensive items should only be purchased from a store, which now few and far between.

Good box but shipping and manufacturing issues

|

Box arrived with trim on right front incorrectly installed on outside of drip rail making a snag hazard. Packaging in crate was flipped over so cardboard was rubbing top of box and paint worn through in shipping. Both of these items should have been caught in inspection if they have any. Construction of the box is great and other than packaging I am happy. But they really need to pay more attention to quality inspection and packaging.

Very Happy!

|

Rolls really well, drawers open all the way. Comes assembled with the casters on,strapped to a skid. Had mine shipped to the store so if it was damaged I wouldn't have to bring it back. It only has a couple of tiny scuff marks on it, that car wax can fix. It has NO dents or any other damage. It does NOT come with liners, and it only has an open weave mat for the top work surface. Its exactly what I wanted and I couldn't be happier!
