I purchased 5 of the Craftsman 17586 for my business. I purchased these 4 years ago These drills are used every day most of the day for 5 days a week. 3 of them are going strong and I have had replace two of them after 3 years. These little drills are worth every penny. They are built to last.
It's a handy tool when it's functioning. Feels good in the hand, lightweight, & has decent power. I've had it about a year. It never sees hard use, just lightweight around the house use. The problem is that it started to smoke the other day, a very light scent. The following day smoke started pouring out of it, then it stopped functioning. The day after that it was functioning again because it had cooled off. The troublesome thing is that I was driving small machine screws at the first clutch setting, & only for a couple of minutes total, so there wasn't any kind of strain going on. Over the 3 days it was in operation for between 3 & 4 minutes total. I doubt it's going to last much longer. Doing some research on the 'net, it seems that the electric motor burning out is a common issue. Now I'm torn between buying another one, or just spending twice as much to get another brand that will last.
I love it when you keep advertising this drill but it is listed as un undeliverable and not available for pickup. We had a Sears store in our town of Roswell, NM but that closed a couple of years ago. If there is no way for me to purchase this drill then stop sending me advertisements you cannot honor.
