This has done great for a/c work in auto. Has also done great keeping track of the temps in the motors, speed controls, and the cylinder heads for R/C hobby. Since I only had a basic, cheap unit prior, that's all I can compare it to now but it has been 100% dead accurate with the digital and the old style 'stick it in the vent' thermometer. I am very happy with this unit and def recommend it.
I bought one of these several years ago and had to return it, last year, because the grips had degraded. They were sticky(!), like adhesive -- can you believe that!
After some strong convincing -- it's only guaranteed for a year -- the manager replaced it for me. Now, it's been a little over a year and I went to use it and all the temperatures it reads -- just around the house -- are over a hundred degrees!! (And, it's late fall here in the northeast; temps in my house are in the 60s.)
To add insult to injury, when I bought it it cost in the neighborhood of $80; now they're trying to peddle it for half that. In my opinion, it's junk and might be worth $10; at least at that price you wouldn't expect much. (And, btw, when I brought it back this time they refused to replace it for me.)
Works great and easy to use.
This item comes in handy and for its small size it offers accuracy and space savings. Bang for your buck
