I originally bought this unit to keep in my boat in case my battery died out in the water and sure enough it saved me $600 for not having to call sea tow, but this isn't even the reason I'm writing this review...Living near the Jersey shoreline, I'm currently on day 5 without power because of Sandy. I was not able to find a generator so all I had was my power pack. To summarize, for the first 48 hours, our cell phones were fully charged, my Ipad was fully charged and we spent our time catching up with the news and watching Netflix online using our mobile hot spot, the lamp produced enough light when having dinner and showering in the dark, and finally with temperatures in the 30's and 40's, my gas fireplace needed some kind of power source to keep the pilot lit and thats what kept us warm at night. After day 3, I went back to work where we had power and I was able to charge my power pack for 8 hours at a time and its been lasting me through the nights.
We bought 3 of these units for our towing business and after using them for about a week we realized that these units will not jump batteries which have very little juice left in them. The jumper pack has a sensor which displays the percentage of the battery which is being jumped. And if it is less than 20% it wont jump the dead battery it wont even try. And generally when a car wont start it only has 5-10% battery life. Not recommended for people looking to jump their cars.
This was the strongest Portable jump-box offered by Diehard is the reason I chose this one. All the bells and whistles are just mediocre icing on a cake that didn't need any icing in the first place. The jump-starter has the amps I need to help start my Diesel truck, as long as the batteries aren't completely dead in my truck. It starts cars and lawn mowers with no problem. The on-board air compressor is just about as useless as any other cheap 12volt compressor... it works great for a basketball, but will take absolutely forever to air up a full sized truck tire. I love the built-in inflator...great to air up that mattress on a camping trip... but there is nowhere to store the hose for the mattress inflator, so be sure to pack the hose in your backpack or you won't be able to use it. This model does feature 1 USB charging port. The newer model has 2 USB ports, but all of the other specs are the same. There are 2 12volt sockets and 2 120volt AC plugs. It does take a lot of battery power to run the AC inverter, so don't plan to use it for very long before it drains the jump-box.
If you have one vechicle or 2 or 3 ,this is a must. When you need a jump,It's there, when the power goes out in your home,It's there. Tire low,It is there.Be prepared! This is not something you should just think about, get it as soon as you can,for all your cars or trucks. It is also a nice thing to have when camping, fishing ,Whatever!.The price is very well worth the many things this thing can do.Investing in this model has the advantage of the integral inverter.AC/DC/USB,you got it.
The build quality seemed alright, but the both units I purchased had any power cable or power adapter as mentioned in the instruction manual. Felt betrayed and frustrated to find out after I sent this to my parents overseas. I strongly recommend that you check if the power cable is in the package before purchasing.
Died at 4 months old, just out of warranty. :(
Bought it on Aug 4 2014. Had full 100% out of the box but still leaving it on charge for 36 hours per instruction. Only tried inverter feature and it worked just fine. Will update review after using product for few months. Cant beat price and features!!!
I have owned 3 of these units. 2 of them have failed to take and/or hold a charge because I did not charge them EVERY MONTH!!!!!!! The third one would only charge up to 10% after attempting to jump start a dead battery in a 2010 Chevy van. The jump start cables are too short...it's not always easy to be right on top of the battery you are trying to jump!
