after reading hundreds of karaoke machine reviews, what i found was that all of them have at least a couple of people who were greatly disappointed with their machine. so in the end i decided to take a gamble with this machine. i got it from Sears at holiday time. i chose to get the three year extended warranty because so many of the reviews said the machines broke down shortly after the warranty expired.
many reviews said that they got it as a gift and it was well received but did not work out of the box so i decided to try it out before wrapping it. (did i mention i bought more than one just in case...?)
it worked. it was easy to figure out. it sounded pretty darn good.
i thought i heard a buzz or a ring or something in the speaker but the second time i tried it i didn't hear it. it could have just been that i had been sitting too close to it..? there was a bit of feedback from sitting right in front of it and reading the lyrics. it was easily remedied.
the cds it came with were terrible! but then again, most of the cdgs i've found are! they were still fun, regardless.
we really like the feature of being able to plug in the ipod and youtube songs to sing along to. sadly, with this feature you can't really show the image on your tv and ipods have tiny screens.
the mics are actually awesome! they pick up subtleties (very sensitive) and are very clear. our karaoke revolution mics for our wii and xbox are terrible so maybe we just have a low bar? i don't think so, though. i like that we can dial down either mic as my five year old has NO restraint!
i guess i lucked out with this one! i can't wait until my daughter discovers that she has her own dvd player now, too!
the only complaint i have is that when we pipe it through the tv/speaker system it still plays through it's own speaker. there is also a lag between the two so it sounds like the beat is off by a nanosecond. it's distracting so we just turned down the master volume knob and we could still hear our voices and the music through the tv/surround sound.
overall, i'd say this machine is extremely versatile and of decent quality. it's fairly easy to use. i love that there are two microphones and that the ipod hooks up to it. MY ipod does not sit well in the cradle- must not be the right model. i really like that the mics have a resting place for when they are not in use- sturdy ones, too! i'd recommend unplugging the mics when the machine isn't in use to minimize the chance of ruining the jacks. i'm very glad i finally took the plunge and chose this one! it does so much and it can be so simple! (we were just singing through it while listening to our stereo! what a blast!).
THIS IS DEFINITELY GREAT FAMILY FUN! the only two things i'd recommend are purchasing a longer cord to attach the ipod so you can read the lyrics but position yourself further from the speaker and if you want to listen to it through head phones and sing with both mics you may want to get a splitter for the headphone jack so that both singers can hear the music.
in case you think this is a bogus review i would like to reassure you that it is not. i just wanted to write a long, comprehensive review to help people who, like me, are tired of trying to figure out which reviews are bogus and who just had a bad experience and needed vent.
my recommendation is that you try it out as soon as you get it to see for yourself how you like it and to avoid disappointment. i'm sure with the sheer volume of these machines being produced that there will be lemons. but this one is a gem as far as i'm concerned!
This is one of the best i have tried so far. Great sound and good quality.. not only for kids but also great fir parties and adults to use. Also one of the pros on this comes with two microphones for duets.
Sounds so good and such nice ways this machine makes you sound. I also use it as a speaker in case I want to listen to music. Nit inky for kids also great for parties for adults too.
My karaoke is Fantastic. Me & the Family have been having a Great time with this. It has so many different functions and the TV screen is fun!!!!! It is fantastic quality and gas lots of functions. We have family night and take turns singing and performing. This karaoke machine gas bought my family closer together!!!!! Thanks for such a great product!!!!
Haven't really tried it yet but my kids say it's really good and the price was a great deal I would recommend it looking foward to buying more CDs
Bought is because of all the free songs, but when I received the item, I quickly found that you still have to spend money to get fun songs to sing. So many free songs, but all duds. Returned it. They have free karaoke sites on the internet now. It would be a good product if the free songs were good.
I am happy with this product. Overall it was a great purchase. There is a low humming sound when you are not singing BUT I did read about this and was aware of the issue before purchasing. My girls enjoy it and we haven't had any issues with the machine! 2 cd's loaded with songs were included and an added bonus!
We got this for our son's family they have 2 small children. I wanted the kids to be able to use the machine to listen to their "kids CDs" and to have fun hearing themselves using a microphone. The door to get to the CDs opens by pushing the door in and releasing. The CD fastens in vertically and it is a little hard for a child to remove the CD even when they know to push in the center space as they gently pull on the side of the CD.
I would have preferred the knobs and dials on the top to have some color coding, easier for kids who can't read yet and grandmas (without her glasses) to know which **** to turn.
But my least favorite thing is the volume control. See that silver button on the right side near the top? The volume is not a turning **** but you push that button on the right side or the left side to turn it up of down.
For the price it is fun. My husband and I tried it out before we gave it as a gift and we had fun.
Best part? 2 mics
No fighting over the mic because they each have a mic to hold. The other mic can be turned off, turned way down, even unplugged it they don't notice.
Who knows maybe seeing the words as they sing along with the Karaoke CDs will help them learn to read.... bonus.
