Good microwave with some issues

We purchased this GE Spacemaker to replace a similar 9-year old model due to transformer failure. As expected, repair costs were nearly as much as a new one. We needed the same volume and power levels as before. We also needed the bisque finish to match our other appliances. In the rush to make all appliances stainless steel, this color is becoming hard to find. We were able to use the previous wall bracket, but the mounting screws were in different locations, so a few more holes had to be drilled in the overhead cabinets. Otherwise, installation is easily DIY. The appearance is sleeker, but the design did not need the curved lower edge, which reduces the distance to the stovetop below. The door is slightly misaligned and does not appear to be adjustable. Although most of the controls are identical to the previous model, GE deleted several controls or settings we used a lot. We'll just have to get used to it.

I've had this microwave for less than 2 years and it worked fine but all of a sudden it stays on when you shut the door. I've tried several different things to make it work and I have not had any luck

Just what I was looking for

|

I needed an Over the Range microwave to replace the old one in the house I just bought. This had all the features I wanted and was the right size.

"Light button" snapped

|

This microwave came with our house (1st owners). The middle "light" button for under unit has depressed in & now broke off. Is there a way to fix it without buy the WHOLE assembly? House closed on 03/2013, assuming warranty not valid?

works ok- design flaw with door

|

A real curiosity - The door does not align properly (as in product picture on marketing materials). After 2 years of use, the handle mount broke off on the bottom fastener position. The screw is not accessible from the inside of door unless you remove the inner wall of the door. Not pleased with this level of quality.

Irrepairable issue

|

Bought this about 20 months ago. Worked well for nearly 18 months. And then stopped warming food. Everything else looked normal except that the food was not warming up.
Fortunately had extended warranty. GE made several attempts to repair it. A total of 6 visits in the span of two months. Pretty much every component was replaced: Magnetron, CPU board, cable harness & few other minor ones. But yet, the microwave would only work momentarily and as soon as it is mounted back on the wall, it would stop working.
Ended up getting reimbursed because of extended warranty.
But, it was a major hassle to go through the experience of repeated service trials while not having a microwave!
Two years is not a lot for these kind of appliances. This was actually a replacement for yet another GE which lasted for about 3 years! Not sure what to think of GE microwaves anymore.
