Ice on Demand
We had a ge refrigerator profile for 16 years and had to replace it. We decided on another ge profile due to its great features and ease of storing. Refrigerator is very silent and has a turbo cool feature now that starts cooling real fast.
We noticed a change in ice making production two months after delivery. Recently, the ice dispenser failed to work and sounded like it was obstructed. We took out the ice bucket and shook the ice up. It had no impact. Five minutes later, it started dispensing again.(?). Stay tuned
We chose the Profile that replaced one that was over 18 years old.
I have owned many side by sides over the years, and this is the worst of all. I'm always throwing bad milk away before the due date. Like now, the due date on the milk carton states it is good until 10/10/19, today is 10/06/19, and the milk stinks (again). The shelves crack and break easily and I have had to replaced a couple of them. Even the ice bin crack once. The filter assembly has not worked correctly since the first time I changed it. I reported it to GE and they said, some water always comes out a little. But I'm not talking about a little, I'm talking about more than it should. My daughter has a GE (the model down from the Profile), and it does not have this issue. I had to learn how to do the quickest filter change you have ever seen. I had a GE repairman come out several times over the years (while it was under warranty), in regards to both the filter and the milk going bad, and there was always an excuse as to why these issues were going on, but no matter what they did, the issues would still remain. One day, when I tried to do the quick change of the filter, the water came out of it like I just turned on the outside hose. The filter would not go on, so I had to grab a wrench, run outside, and turn off the water at the meter. by the time i came back in, my kitchen was flooded. So now, before changing the filter, I turn off the water from the house and change the filter. I called to have it fixed, but my extended warranty ran out several weeks before and they wanted to charge me an arm and a leg to fix a problem that should have been fixed the first time I called when it was still under warranty. The only thing I can say good about it is, when the power goes out (once it was over 18 hours), the refrigerator stays cold enough to where the food does not go bad. The reason I'm writing this now, is because I am so tired of all the hassles with this Profile, that I am looking for a good refrigerator, and it will not be a GE.
Love the icemaker - have not run out of ice. Space is great and lighting is outstanding. Has only been installed 3 days.
I have owned GE appliances for 30 years plus. This refrigerator however is a big disappointment. Terrible lighting. Once you fill the freezer side your lighting is greatly diminished since all of the lighting is in the rear of the freezer. In the refrigeration section do not put any glass in the sections on the top of the door. (Usually where you might put a butter dish) The door can fly open and all of it's contents end up on your floor. Broken glass dish and all. The produce drawer sections are very small and hold very little. The refrigeration itself does a superb job and items stay fresh for a very long time. I will not purchase a GE refrigerator again after using this model.
The GE refrigerator was everything we expected it to be and more.
