Good pruduct for the money

Very nice generator but I wish it had the start/stop on the panel and a main circuit breaker . This would make it easier to remove the load prior to stating & stopping the engine. The location of the on/off or start/stop switch is less convienent than that of the GP3250. This surprises me that the lesser generator has two nicer, more desirable features. Nonetheless, a great generator with plenty of back up power for the home's necessities. After storing it away for about 4 months, I noticed the hour meter is stuck in a maintenece mode. unlike the newer 5500s, this one, last year's model, came with the hour meter that notifies you of oil changes & spark plug changes. For the past two hours of use, it is blinking "change plugs in 177 hours" OH WELL, I'LL GET A CHANCE TO RATE THE WARRANTY SERVICE LATER THIS WEEK. We'll see how smoothly that goes!! LOL!!

same engine as cheap no name generators that cost hundreds less

I have no complaint about the generator other then the engine is made in an " unknown private overseas vender" (china??). Look at some pics, the gp5500 has the same engine found in all the cheap chinease generators that cost half as much.
I am really upset that i spent $780.00 w/tax for this generator from GENERAC! only to find out later its a cheap generator like a chicago, champion, homelite, other no name generators etc. I bought it because it was a generac and it was suppossed to be made with quality. For example using a known engine from briggs, tecumseh, suburu, honda or yamaha. I could have spent half the money and gotten the same product that was not hiding behind a name that used to be known for  quality.

I bought it in a time of need and had no time for research. Shame on me but I specifically bought the Generac and paid extra because i thought i could not go wrong with a generac generator.
When the engine needs fixing how do you get a part for it?

The carb is also a chinease cheapy. How do you get a carb kit if it gets gummed up? ( it happens all the time to carbs that sit idle).

Its like buying a stihl chainsaw only to find out you bought a poulan with a stihl sticker on it.

Blown away!

This generator is fantastic! We bought it after two days of no power from storms. Brought it home, unpacked it and had it together inside of a half hour. Fueled it up, added the oil and half a pull on the starter rope and she was purring right along. Handles a full 30 amp load with little effort. I would recommend to anyone who wants a fair priced reliable unit!
Thanks for a great product!

Great generator, pull start issue

|

This has been a good generator for several years now. This moring however the recoil start (mostly plastic) broke, turning my generator into a 700 dollar hunk of metal. I was able to remove the pull start, and ultimately use a rope to start it, meanwhile my wife got the kids ready for school as i fought with the recoil. When I called Customer service they were incredibly helpful and they are shipping me a new recoil. I would buy this again, but i think the recoil should be upgraded from the factory, its rather frustrating having a 700 dollar generator rendered useless by a 10 dollar plastic part!!!!

Great GP5500

|

Couldn't be happier with my new 5500. Delivery was as expected, easy assembly of handle / wheel kit, filled with oil and gas, started on first pull.

This product was very easy to use as we just experienced a power outage. I was so glad I bought it. One of the best around. I had bought it three weeks prior to the outage. And I just know Generac is a good name so I wanted the best. I'm totally 100% happy with my generator

Great Generator

|

This is my second GP5500. Used as a back up for power outages. I lost my first GP5500 in a barn fire. I had the first one for around 10 years. It would sit for along time between uses and still would always start and run like new. When looking for a replacement I never considered another brand.

Keeps the lights on.

We had some nasty winds that knocked out the power for almost a week with Temps in the teens. Got this beauty and have all the comforts up and running. Had my electrician wire it so all I have to do is wheel it out and plug in to a connector outside my house too, so no running extension cords all over the place.
