The Hoover Max Extract Upright Floor Cleaner does exactly what you bought it for, it works. In our home this floor cleaner is better than having a company come clean your floors for you. With three dogs you don't want to wait days to clean up accidents but best of all this thing actually does what you expect it to do, it cleans. It's also tough as nails. With three dogs and a natural desert back yard this thing gets a workout almost daily and being easy to use is a big plus.
I really wanted to love this machine. I bought it for the tile feature. It's a great concept but just doesn't work well. The heat that is being blown out to dry the floor pushes the water all over. You are then chasing the water trying to vacuum it up before it goes under your appliances or trim. It was also very heavy and the wheels squeaked horribly. Definitely not work the price tag.
I purchased this carpet washer in 2013 and it is still working superbly. The weather has been hot, so time to clean carpets. We have silver carpets and this machine makes a big difference. I have found it very easy to use and simple to disassemble and rinse afterwards. Although I find this washer simple and effective to use, I can see how it may not be idiot proof, hence all of the negative reviews. There are many parts and you must read the instructions. It is also important to rinse off the parts thoroughly and let them dry completely before reassembling after use. And please, the whole thing is plastic so be reasonable careful with this very nice machine. It will last a long time if you treat it with care and respect. Mine will be ready again for another round of cleaning in a few months. What a great machine!
• My wife bought this machine yesterday and started cleaning the carpets. It appeared to do a great job until the brushes stopped spinning. I am an engineer so I wanted to investigate to find the problem. What I found was very surprising. Other than the motor the one part that probably gets the most stress is a pin that rotates the brushes. This pin, part number (440001354 — Drive Pin Kit, Spinscrub) is an injection molded part that sheared off within 25 minutes of operation. This part should have been made of aluminum or some other stronger material than ABS plastic. I checked on-line and found that this part is available for $1.33; however, they are out of stock. Imagine that!! I don’t know about the leaking that everyone talks about in their review as we never got that far into the use of this cleaner. I won’t recommend this device to anyone until the Hoover engineers correct the design flaws.
I bought this carpet & hard floor cleaner 9 months ago, the design is good but the material is too weak & cheap. the brushes mechanism gear housing broke few days ago, I had to use my old hoover steam vac all terrain which I have it since 2008.
I bought this cleaner 2 years ago, couple weeks ago I took it out to freshen up my carpet per my every 3 month schedule. Right in the middle of the job the motor shut off. I let it rest for a few hours and then it just made a whining noise. A week later and that's still all it will do. This is ridiculous that a cleaner for this amount of money gives out just as the warranty is up. My family has used Hoover products since I was a kid so I thought nothing of spending what this item costs thinking it was a sound purchase. I don't have money to throw away on a costly cleaner every 2 years! Obviously the products of 40 years ago were of a better quality compared to what they make today. Buyer beware unless you have money to throw away...
