This set has significantly beat my expectations. When I told my significant other pick out a dining room table for our downsize into an apartment, she showed me this set. Initially I did not approve - "Furniture from K-Mart? It's gonna be ****!" After some discussion I figured I'd give it a shot; for the price what did I have to lose? The set was packaged extremely well. Each piece was wrapped in actual bubble wrap and was flawless. The hardware supplied was of good quality and extras were supplied which is always a nice gesture. The wood used and finish was fantastic. Took my time assembling and added a few steps of personal preference: blue locktite on threads and a bit of wood blue on the chair dowels and where the seat bottom mounts to the frame to keep everything tight. Rock solid! Is this a $1500 dining room set? Of course not. But the quality for being relatively inexpensive is amazing. I don't usually leave reviews, but, I am impressed and wanted to share my experience.
Yes, yes, what do you expect for the price? I can hear it already from some folks. I expect that when I hand my money over to someone I get a reasonable quality product in return. But we'll go with the positives first: The table top design is very good looking for furniture in this price range. If you follow the instructions and do not tighten all of the nuts and bolts on the chairs until you have them assembled, you can place the chair on a hard floor and by holding it together by bracing it with your free arm and legs, leveling the chair legs, and then tightening the nuts and bolts right where they are, you can get a chair that does not rock back and forth on uneven legs. Every nut/bolt combo has a flat washer and a spring washer to help keep the nuts tight. This is a nice feature. Now for the not-so-positives: Believe everything everyone says about the finish scratching easily. Some recommended a coat of polyurethane. I do not have that option where I am, and we do not have children in the house, so I thought that we would be able to avoid scratching the finish if we were careful. Wrong. Almost everything that touches it scratches it. Recommendation: be ready to put that coat of poly on or buy another dining set. 2 of the chairs had broken rungs (crossbars) on them. Another rung was not finished on one side. The pre-drilled holes are not the best. I guess we are lucky to have them at all, by some reviews. The manual has an 800 number to call for missing/replacement parts, but the recording on there says that their customer service department is being reorganized, and directs customers to send an email instead. I did so and received a reply in a reasonable time. Once I provide proof of purchase, the email says they will ship the 3 defective parts above to me. If that happens and it all works out, I may be willing to raise my rating a little, but we'll have to see.
Good sturdy table. The color is beautiful. Easy to put together. I've had it for a few years now and I love it as much as the day I bought it.
this is not the set to but with kids in household
Sturdy, heavy duty & beautiful!!
Beautiful, sturdy table. It acquires blemishes easily, however, so be careful what you place on it and how you handle the tabletop. I would suggest, at minimum, using place mats if not a tablecloth as well. Otherwise, a solid purchase for the price.
