We had to go to more than one Sears store to see an actual unit. Not all Sears locations carry a trash compactor model on their floor. The salesman had to special order it and we needed to wait several days in order to go back and pick it up. While the unit works great in itself, we were disappointed that it was not 100% stainless steel as the salesman pitched and that the top of the free standing unit was scratched. I spent several hours over two days on the phone being transferred to one Sears representative to another. We were eventually able to resolve the issue through a price reduction. While there were some bumps along the road with this purchase, we are overall very pleased with the function of the unit. It is very easy to add and remove the trash bags. We have an immediate family of four individuals and normally have about five Glad trash bags of normal trash each week. With this trash compactor, we only use one bag per week. Another inconvenience is that the trash compactor bags are special and I have found that the best price of these bags should be purchased online. Planning in advance is not a problem in needing to wait for them to be delivered. I would like to see Sears have a better way to handle complaints as it seemed unnecessary to be constantly transferred over several hours and several days. At this present time we are content with the purchase.
I bought this yesterday. I had an earlier model that lasted about 4 years, and when it died i bought this one. I usually pay attention to the reviews, but in this case not enough. One review stated that it doesent compress. As i had an earlier model.i figured that this person just didnt know how to use it,so i bought it. The ram goes down to compress, but as soon as its down it comes back up. The garbage doesent compress well this way. The other one had a ram that stayed down, compressing the garbage until you pushed the button to send it back up. I got all upset, and ready to send it back, but realized that at the bottom of the cycle if i pushed the off button the ram would stay down compressing the garbage until the on button was pushed. Doing this the **** thing works great, and i am keeping it. If you dont do it as i have listed, dont buy one of these as i guess as some of us have reviewed, they dont work correctly
A weeks worth of trash in one bag with 7 people at home. We were rarely able to get all the trash into the one barrel provided by the town, prior to the compactor. We also recycle.
...I would want black appliances, but they look stylish and upscale enhancing the appearance of our kitchen overall. (But beware) they may inspire your spouse to do a complete remodel, not just an upgrade, lol! We started with a refrigerator that desperately needed replaced. With our (shoppingmyway) discounts and using our Sears card (12 mo. same as cash) we saved enough to purchase a dishwasher (which my wife has never had, not counting me) but we are installing the dishwasher where the old 1960's range was and installing the new gas range (which started all of this) where the old refrigerator used to be. that left us with a 16" gap to fill in cabinet space, which led to the trash compactor (15"). That is leading to a new coutertop as well (gasp) but hey...happy spouse, happy house!!!
Doesn't compact very good, built cheap. This compactor lasted 2 days after the one year warranty. The motor burned up.
Poorly put together. Top does not go down on bottom part. Called
Store. All they said was SORRY!
Was looking to replace my trash compactor that had died several years earlier, but could not find one in the almond (off white) color. found this one in the store when browsing for refrigerators. Paid $20 more to have it delivered (we live 60 miles from closest store), the delivery was on time, and the unit fit perfectly. Love the automatic opening devise when my hands are full, very quiet, and completes my kitchen.
This is the biggest disappointment I have ever had in a home appliance! It's flimsy and doesn't compact all the way. It lowers only about 12-18" and with very little pressure so there is never evidence of crushing at all. It's a waste of space. Don't buy this!
I get upset every time I use it...I wish I kept my old GE. It lowered all the way down and even had a "hold" setting to keep it lowered. It was much heavier than this one. It was getting old and noisy but I'd gladly take it back after using this one.
I replaced a Kenmore compactor for the visual appearance in a kitchen remodel. My old one a broken switch, but still worked extremely well, just didn't stop on its own and had been working for a good 10+ years. We've had this one for about 3.5 months so far it is going fine. I noticed the reviews said it didn't compact as well as older ones. I guess I hadn't really noticed, but now that I am thinking about it I would probably agree. Not as tight a pack as my old unit. But it looks nice, is operational and not as loud as my older one.
Not quite as sturdy as the 25 year old Kemore it replaced. I guess they don't make appliances like they used to! I do have to admit this was the cheapest model and it does what it is supposed to.
