We picked this dishwasher because we needed an 18" portable, we like Sears, & it could be delivered in one day. This is for our “long weekend get-a-way place” where we spend more time now that we're partially retired. Everything about this D/W is great, build quality is sturdy, hoses & connectors are more then adequate; it is a strong, well made little machine. After reading other reviews on it, we only use brand name liquid detergent and it does a fantastic job. Here are the PROS & CONS. PROS: Relatively quiet for a portable, it uses little water and everything comes out perfectly clean. The price topped out at around $550 including buying the 3 year protection plan/warranty (usually I don't get this but with my luck lately, the peace of mind is worth it!) I did get a 5% discount for using my Sears card, also it was on sale, so in my mind this validated my decision in buying the extra warranty, especially since it covers everything, including in-home repair. CONS: Sears’s charges more for black portables than for white ones, that is about it. I was worried about our faucet (it is a new high-arc type with a sprayer that pulls out of the end of the spout) however, after removing the aerator & existing washer, the included adapter and two washers hooked right up to the inside threading; perfect. No drips or leaks, and we can still use the faucet & sprayer with the quick connector left on permanently, SCORE! It takes us a couple of days to fill the D/W with dishes, therefore, we connect the water, do a quick rinse first, let the dishes set about 20 minutes after the machine drains, and then we run a normal wash. Consequently, anything that dried on comes off without a spot, (you might not need this step, but our water is a little hard.) My next house is going to have the 18" built in, it takes the two of us up to a week to fill the full-size machine at home & yet the dishes still get clean, but we always need things in between when it’s dirty. Yes, we can pull what we need out and wash by hand, however, that's why we have a dishwasher. This 18” D/W can be ran every two days without feeling guilty, we are still environmentally friendly. At $550 total cost, including the 3 year warranty, using it 3 times a week comes to $1.50 a load; well worth the cost unless you love spending 45 minutes standing at the sink. We hope for much more than 3 years of use from this tough little dishwasher, if your on the fence, GO FOR IT, YOU’LL LOVE IT, we plan on buying two more for our rental house's that do not have room for built in full size units..TIPS: If the connection leaks, keep trying.....switching between either using 1 or both of the washers that came with the machine, and remove the one on the faucet with the aerator. Also, from the other comments, use liquid pods or liquid dishwasher detergent, it seems to work better, and none comes with the machine so have it on hand for when it's delivered, along with rinse-aid.
Didn't come with a faucet adapter as described in the manual. Not available at store. Had to pay an additional $30 to get one from national service/parts and wait an additional 2 weeks for it to come in the mail. Last sears purchase I'l ever make.
This dishwasher is great! Easy to setup and use. It's very quiet, and actually fits quite a few dishes in it, and we are a family of five. As I was unwilling to redo my whole kitchen just to have a dishwasher installed, this was a welcome compromise. Also, I use the Finish Powerball detergent, which includes a drying/rinse aid, and haven't had one spot on any of my dishes. Excellent product.
We've had the dishwasher for about three weeks, got it just before Easter. We had 27 friends and family members for Easter dinner and the dishwasher worked really well and made a huge difference in clean up. Since then we've used it regularly. It's super quiet and cleans everything, dishes, pots and pans, silverware etc. perfectly.
I brought this a month ago and is the right size dishwasher.
