A weeks worth of trash in one bag with 7 people at home. We were rarely able to get all the trash into the one barrel provided by the town, prior to the compactor. We also recycle.
I bought this yesterday. I had an earlier model that lasted about 4 years, and when it died i bought this one. I usually pay attention to the reviews, but in this case not enough. One review stated that it doesent compress. As i had an earlier model.i figured that this person just didnt know how to use it,so i bought it. The ram goes down to compress, but as soon as its down it comes back up. The garbage doesent compress well this way. The other one had a ram that stayed down, compressing the garbage until you pushed the button to send it back up. I got all upset, and ready to send it back, but realized that at the bottom of the cycle if i pushed the off button the ram would stay down compressing the garbage until the on button was pushed. Doing this the **** thing works great, and i am keeping it. If you dont do it as i have listed, dont buy one of these as i guess as some of us have reviewed, they dont work correctly
2nd compactor that we have owned. They are excellent
When you step on the pedal to release the latch on the drawer, the latch releases, but the spring that is supposed to push the door open for you doesn't work. Then you have to manhandle it open the rest of the way yourself. Had the repairman come in and he told me that is what it is supposed to do - just unlatch the lock and then you pull it open yourself.
Love our new compactor. We had one that was probably 30 years old and it finally bit the dust. In searching for a new one I was happy to see that Sears still made them and they were affordable.
