2015 UPDATE: Noise level has increased with age, and the suction seems to be noticeably diminished.... Not an expected development when the last one lasted at better performance for MANY more years..... time time to get a Shark? This unit was purchased to replace a 10+ year old Kenmore Canister that I really thought was working OK til the wheels fell of for the umpteenth time....so the Associates at the Geneseo NY store helped with selecting this vacuum - and SOOOOO glad they did!! This has superior engineering and tool storage, and the first time I used it I found out how much 'stuff' the old vac had been missing!! NOT noisy, manuveurs great and cleans fantastic!!
This is my third kenmore vacuum. I love the power and suction and the rug beater works great. Unfortunately, the parts were designed by someone who has never vacuumed. Let's start with the crevice tool....it has holes in it to mount it to the wand...which makes the wand fat, heavy and bulky, but come on...have you ever tried to drink thru a straw with a hole? You can't do it. And, this model could really use a crevice tool as they put HUGE plastic fittings over the ends of the hose that don't fit in corners, under heaters, close to edges on stairs and where the wall, carpet meet. Of course that leads to the next item...the floor wand. It pivots...a little bit too much so that it won't stay in one place...and when it pivots, it closes the hole thru which the suction occurs. It will only suck up dirt if its directly under the floor wand as it seems to touch the floor everywhere leaving no room for things to slide under...so instead of sucking up dirt, you push it into a pile and then have to lift the want to suck it up...but you need to be sure the thing is in the most upright position or the hole is closed. It won't do edges, corners, crevices...oh but wait...there's a crevice tool for that...oh, but it has holes in it.. The carpet beater has power and does a great job and the motor is strong, but it doesn't do edges, corners, close to walls etc so you need the attachments to work. The handle is nice a long, but way too bulky and awkward with the mounted useless crevice tool and the very strangely designed upholstery brushes that are extremely hard to work with as the smooth one is inside the brush but the brush keeps sliding down over it and won't stay locked into place. The wand has all plastic fittings which I believe are designed to make the vacuum lighter, but because they are cheap plastic, they break. Instead of improving on the weak spots of the old design...the plastic fittings that break...they added more. I would love this vacuum if it had real working attachments to a normal sized metal hose end that would actually reach into corners. I am hoping Sears will fix the mistakes and send customers parts that actually would work!
Hey, it's a vacuum cleaner, it's supposed to suck. I've had it for a few years now and it's still working like new. Only issue I've had is the automatic height adjuster fell off, but I don't use it anyway.
So easy to handle. Gets under beds and dressers with amazing ease. Attachments are numerous and work excellent. Very durable.
I actually returned this because it was the same model that recently stopped suctioning. I purchased the newer model which is purple. I do not understand why the engineers that design these canisters can't get it all right. The white canister has an angled hose input which restricted the suction power but the unit moved easily. The new purple canister has a straight hose input so the suction is just fine but when you try to pull the vacuum along while you are moving around the room, the canister topples over which is quite frustrating.
Good value for the money. Great suction and there are plenty of attachments. The wheels could be improved. They just don't allow the vacuum to run smoothly across the floor or uneven surfaces.
Great vac! Everyone should have one.
