Read the instructions first

If you are not used to a high-efficiency machine, you should read the instructions first! With my old (2001) washer, I would start the washer first, then put in detergent, then clothes. The washer would operate with the lid up in the fill/wash cycle. This method will not work with the 22242 model. The LAST thing you do is start the machine, because its auto-sensing adjusts the water level to your load, and if you have no load in the machine when you start it, I think it throws the sensors off. Also, it will not operate with the lid up, even during fill, and I would like to be able to watch the water fill and the wash cycle agitation. The first time I used the machine, I pushed the start before loading the machine, which was a mistake but easy to correct the next time. The low water level (which is supposedly normal) took some getting used to, but my load came out clean and fresh. I do not think the machine is excessively noisy; it is quieter than my old washer, so I am satisfied.

spin problems

We bought this washer because of its brand reputation but sad to say its was a really bad mistake. The spin cycle on this washer is awful, I actually thought that the machine was going to explode. We bought one and returned it for the exact same thing thinking it was a defective product but no, the same issue happened with the other new one. I would not recommend this washer at all. Great products at Sears but stay away from this one. We did buy another washer but totally different brand.

Very good washing machine

This is an excellent machine.

Prior to purchase I did a wealth of online research. The Kenmore, top load, models were clearly the most interesting to us. I have purchased many Kenmore appliances over the last 35 years and have a very health respect for the brand.

This model has a very good volume for our family. I like that it has knobs and is not strictly a touch panel or push buttons. That is better for longevity. It has a very varied amount of options for washing the clothes.

We used the machine for about one month using varied options. I does clean the clothing very well. The auto water level seems adequate. You will find various cleaning options which also give varied water amounts.

I found some rather odd low ratings which seem unexplainable. First, read some of the directions. This is not a 1980's model. You should not pack the clothing but lay clothing loosely.

It runs very quietly with very little vibrations during spin cycle. I fully understand why CR rated it so highly. Price was very good. It is a great machine for the price.

Delivery went very well. The guy were prompt and neat. They did a good job of setting up the machine.

II would not buy the Kenmore 22242 again.

Would not not buy another appliance with HE auto sensing. Have problem with water levels on fill. Also, the machine spins too short of a time, causing the cloths to come out too wet. Have to run the dryer longer period of time to get the cloths dry.

Good washer, noisy fill up

|

Love the washer. It has a lot of room and washes everything well. It is very loud when the water first fills in though. I thought maybe the hoses weren't hooked up right, but it's quiet after it fills up.

Mixed review

The tub was large which makes it easier to wash comforters however I only had this washer for 2 weeks and the agitator broke off. Other than that the machine worked great.

Big jump in technology

|

It does so much more than the old Kenmore. We found no need to override the auto settings. For the non-technical, a bar progress indicator like computers use would make the new noises more acceptable. Delivery crew very respectful .Free sample? I'll take a dryer.

Good Washer

|

I like it so far, but I have only had it two weeks. The wash cycle has a funny sound that bothers me, but I am odd about sounds like that. It is quieter than my old one.

Have not used washing machine yet. Do not know how to use it! Out of balance! Installers dropped it off and left!
