Plenty of Storage Capacity
This Kenmore upright freezer has 13.8 cu. ft. of interior storage capacity, so you can load in bulk groceries, pre-made casseroles and breakfast sandwiches, tubs of ice cream and more without overcrowding the freezer.
Stock the Freezer Right
3 fixed full-width wire shelves, a bottom pull-out wire basket and ladder-style door storage give you plenty of storage for your food. Tuck away sweet treats for later and keep lasagnas and packages of fresh meat right at eye level. Door storage is perfect for small staple items like bagels, breads and bags of fruit. Keep the good stuff readily available in this upright freezer.
Frost Free For Sure
This upright Kenmore freezer has a Frost Free design meant to keep your foods freezer–burn free and the freezer free of icy build up. An advanced baffle design keeps fresh air
Have had this Kenmore #22442 freezer for only a week, but am very pleased so far. Was originally looking for a smaller unit, but this was the smallest upright unit I found that: - Was sold & could be easily serviced (if needed) in the rural area where I live; - Has automatic defrost; - Fit in the space I had available Bonuses: -“Designed, engineered & assembled in the USA” (albeit w/ offshore-manufactured components; e.g., compressor says Panasonic/Singapore; -Love the LED light inside; -Has a lock on the left side of the door; -Had Sears deliver the unit, which was wonderful. Item came fully assembled & ready to plug in. Fit & Finish: Seem good. Saw three holes on the underside of the door & another on the rear of the unit with what I presume is extruded foam insulation. Sound level: Noticeable, but normal, when compressor is running. Considerations: -Door is NOT reversible; opens on left/hinges on right; -Door has 5 full-width shelf bins, but they are not removable/adjustable; -Wire basket on bottom has sides that taper in (lose a bit of shelving space, but perhaps this allows air to circulate better); -Unit comes with 3 white vinyl-coated wire shelves in the cabinet, plus another set of holes to adjust the included shelves or add a fourth. Two of the shelves are full-depth; the third (one that is shown in website photos on top of the basket) is not as deep because there's a “bump-out” for, I presume, mechanical components. I moved this shelf to provide better access to the temperature control dial & allow me to put bulkier items on the bottom; -Temperature control is by a simple dial (no digital display). Dial is located on the back wall inside the unit on the lower right side. Might be inconvenient for some users, but, since the unit is automatic defrost, you probably won't have to access it much. Settings range from 1-7. There are no corresponding temperatures to the settings (probably due to variations in customer settings), but the unit came set on 4 & I've left it there. No interior thermometer, but you can easily set one on a shelf if you want to monitor temperature settings; -The bottom 10 inches or so on the back of the unit are open -- I presume for heat dissipation purposes. Something to consider if you have small children who might reach behind the unit or small animals in the house that like to hide in warm places; -Exterior door, sides & top all have textured (not smooth) finish; -The softly-glowing green “on” light is easy to see at night, but since it's on the lower right front, you might have to bend over or get down on you knees to see it during daytime; - Not Energy-Star rated, so no electric co. rebate. If you're ordering without seeing a unit in person, you can also look at reviews and photos on other sites for similar items. I believe Frigidaire makes this unit for Sears as well as one for GE (#FUF14DHWW). The comparable Frigidaire unit, FFFU142QW, differs in that it has a “trivet” instead of a wire basket.
A frustrating experience. The description says five shelves. But there are actually only three shelves in the cabinet, making the freezer virtually unusable. Had to order extra shelf for over fifty bucks with shipping and handling. Sears appliance parts locator nearly impossible to use. Why don't they ship a complete freezer to begin with?
O.K, so i wanted a 20 cu ft. freezer.(that's what I had) but no one is making one tall enough at sears right now to fit into my notch where the other one fit. So,I had to get a 13.8. I'm single, so it is actually big enough. Nice looking. Does the job. As for the noise some complained about. I take naps in my living room at times. Come on. It's not that noisy.lol I barely hear it. Got a 5 year warranty. Longevity? The other sears freezer lasted for years. I see no reason why this one wouldn't also.
The perfect size for us. It is very quiet and very well lit inside. The great price a definite bonus!
I replaced a large Kenmore Upright Freezer that was 40 years old with this smaller upright. Perfect for our needs and I think it will last for a long time. The only downside, so far, is that it is loud. It is in the basement so I do not often hear it but it could be annoying if it was in a busier part of the house.
