I've owned this fridge for over a year now. It's been a great, basic french-door fridge. We haven't had any problems with it. There are a few drawbacks about it though. When you open the right side of the french door, you cannot also open the cheese/meat drawer on that side. It hits the door divider after opening about 3 inches. That's poor design. You should be able to access that drawer after opening only the right door. It's silly that you have to open both french doors to get the drawer open. Also, the ice machine is nicely tucked away inside the left french door but that also makes for a very small ice maker. We've never run out on a day-to-day basis but when we are entertaining, I have to plan ahead and save ice days before (the ice maker is also very slow, even on the accelerated ice mode) or just purchase ice. Also, the light to the water/ice dispenser only comes on when you push the lever back which leaves guests in the dark as they try to figure out the settings before pushing. Also, when you pull out the freezer, there's an upper shelf to store small items but it only pulls out a few inches so you can't view everything you are storing up there. Again, why not have full extension so you can see everything?? Lastly, the stainless steel finish seems cheap. The coating on it does not clean or polish well, no matter what polish I try (even the Kenmore polish that came with the unit). So it always looks streaky. My previous appliances were Kenmore Elite S/S as well and they always looked nice after polishing. I really like the french door style over my old side-by-side.
I purchased this fridge and got a great deal on a black Friday sale. I was so happy with it I recommended it to my brother in law and he bought the same one a couple weeks later. This last weekend ( about 3 years after purchase) It stopped working and we lost a few hundred dollars of food. I called sears to have them come out they were over a week out (who can wait that long when your food is going bad) So I called a friend who owns an appliance repair service. He looked at it and said that relay board was shot and that it may have a compressor or coolant problem. He said it wasn't worth fixing!!! He told me to basically throw it away after 3 years!!! In the middle of all this I found out 2 months ago the same thing happened to my brother in law and the one he purchased. The sears repair guy that looked at his said basically the same thing. My friend who looked at mine said he had a similar issue with the same model number fridge a couple of weeks ago and that this fridge is one of the poorest quality fridges he has seen. It looks great but is a big pile of you know what. Don't waste your money on this pile. If you don't listen to me you better get an extended warranty because you will likely use it!!!
After one year, the ice maker stopped working
I think we've had this for about 4 months now and overall it is working well. I bought a scratch & dent unit and used the savings to purchase a 3 year warranty. Anyway, this refrigerator seems to keep good and constant temperatures and it has good storage capacity in the refrigerator and the freezer. I ordered and installed a second divider in the freezer drawer and that improved function there with having three separate bins instead of two. I really only have three complaints and they are mostly minor. The first one is that the refrigerator comes with a wrench to adjust the door level, but it's so flimsy that it bent out of shape as soon as I tried to use it. The second is that the ice dispenser sends ice all over the place unless you hold your glass up very high and tight. The third thing is more significant. The top drawer in the freezer absolutely will not stay on track. Not sure what is going on there, but may have to have service come out and take a look. Perhaps the delivery guys didn't put things together correctly? Okay, maybe a 4th thing. The ice maker works fairly well, but it is of very small capacity, so I'd say it's borderline for the two of us. But again, these are mostly minor things, and to be fair, a larger capacity ice maker would take up more refrigerator or freezer space. Overall it's a significantly better than the Frigidaire side-by-side it replaced.
Update, had service out to align the doors and look at the freezer drawer. After he left the whole refrigerator was crooked and the drawer never got fixed. Yay?
I was looking for a French Door Bottom Freezer Refrigerator until I found this was. I went through the Consumer's report and all kind of reviews to make my purchase a good one. I met IRENE, the sales associate at the Brookfield Square Mall Sears location. She was very knowledge about their items. She gave so many options that I was impressed about how much $$ I saved right the way. Its easy to clean, I love the inside spacious, it is perfect to keep a 16" pizza+ and even more space.
Got a great deal on this fridge and overall we are happy with it so far. Had had it for about 3 weeks. The only negative that I can give is that the french doors don't swing shut easily, you have to purposely push them closed. Luckily it has the chime to alert you if they are open because many times we don't realize that they're not shut.
