I have been using this washer for about 9 months, and I find it to be fantastic. My clothes are very clean, and I love the large capacity. I did initially encounter the same problem that many others are mentioning (clothes coming out with white streaks), and actually considered returning this machine during the first 2 weeks. I am still not sure if the white streaks were caused by detergent or lint that did not get rinsed away, but my problem went away once I learned the best cycles to use for various loads. I find that for heavier fabrics or large loads of dark colors, using the "cold clean" cycle eliminates the problem of white streaks for loads where I use cold water (which is most of them). For extra large or heavy loads, or for loads where I want to use the delicate or casual cycles, I sometimes add vinegar to the final rinse (make sure to press the "fabric softener" button) or select the "2 rinses" option. I am wondering if some people received defective machines since quite a few seem to be very unhappy with this washer. I am not a fan of the long cycle times, but it spins out so much water that the dryer is able to do its thing very, very quickly, so I think my total time to do one load is about the same as before. As a few others have mentioned, the spin speed is so fast that clothes will come out of the washer wrinkled, but I haven't noticed the wrinkles to be any worse than with the two previous washers I have owned (one traditional agitator-style washer, and one front-loader). All of my clothes either go into the dryer, or are hung and later ironed, so this doesn't affect me enough to reduce the rating. We are a family of 5, so I do a lot of laundry. I have used all of the cycles, as well as various load cycles (including bedding), and I don't find the low water usage to negatively affect the cleaning at all. Laundry is still one of my most hated chores, but this machine does make it a bit less painful! I will never go back to a front-loader. No more mold!
We are a farm family and you can imagine how the every day clothes look some days. I can use a whole bottle of stain remover and add Oxi Clean to the washer and the clothes still are not clean. My boys have soooo many stained shirts and jeans that they have to continue wearing. I have tried all kinds of options on the washer and nothing is working. I am so frustrated. If I could do washer shopping over again, I would not have even gone to Sears to look for a washer. If I could afford it, I would be buying a different washer. I have gone back to the Sears where I bought the washer with a load of unclean laundry and they laughed at me. Absolutely no help or suggestions from them. They acted like I did not know how to do laundry. Don't buy this washer. I also hate that I have to pull out and empty the soap dispenser after every load because it is still filled with water :(
Purchased a Washer and a Dryer . B ou th were delivered and set up by delivery personnel. They left before testing and the washer would not work. Called the Tech number and a service truck was dispatched a few days later. The washer was checked and needed a part which had to be ordered. Two weeks later and still no working washer. Do they not do quality checks on their Kenmore products?
This model has a faulty control unit assembly from the factory, the service guy said that this is a common problem and they wait for it to fail before they replace the unit. That's a problem, now I'm out of the use of the machine for a month. The good news, it is covered with the warranty. The washing machine did a great job cleaning my clothes. I love it when its working.
Having owned Kenmore Washing Machines since the stone ages, we progressed from the agitator to the new machines without. We owned a non-agitator model for the last eight years. Tried to replace it three years ago with similar model. Ordered it with the glass top to be able to watch wash action. Sent that one back after first load when it didn't get the top pieces of clothing wet throughout the wash cycle. Made a repair to old one myself to keep it running for the last three years. It gave up just before Christmas. Bought this one on sale with 30 day trial. Once again paid the extra money for the glass top but defeated myself when using warm water wash. Condensate on inside of lid makes it impossible for see into machine when running. Ran it hard for two week and found that it washes more aggressively than our old machine, and it also tangles the cloths on every cycle we tried. Sometimes the clothes were so knotted together that it took some time and lots of effort to get them apart. Old machine never did that. We had some knotted clothing occasionally, but never as often or to the extent that we had with this machine. And like the one bought and sent back after just one load, the wife notice some clothing never leaving the top of the load on cold water wash. The last item of disappointment was the cycle finish notification. Even when set to maximum loudness, you can only hear it if you are standing in the washroom with it. You could hear all those little clicking and humming noises when it was running a cycle in our family room, but when finished, if you were not in the room, you can't hear it. Our old machine could be heard a couple of rooms away.. We will go back to a full agitator and hope that since the "old fashioned method" was gone for a few years they didn't forget how to make them! Since they have returned, guess others didn't like the "new" machines either.
I bought this washer because our previous Kenmore set lasted 15 years. Kenmore has gone way downhill since then as evidenced by this washer, and I will never buy this brand again. This model is terrible, and it's not even the low end price-wise. If you press delicate it *defaults* to a setting where the clothes are sopping, drenched wet when done and impossible to dry unless you hand-wring the water out first! It does not use enough water to rinse out a normal high efficiency amount of detergent and fabric softener unless you choose deep fill (which is not the point of a water-saving washer) and deep fill is not even an option with every wash setting. The matching dryer is even worse. I think anyone who positively reviewed these machines may have recently received them and will have a different opinion after they live with them for awhile.
