Fast recovery

Married with 3 kids and the water seems to keep up with the showers, laundry and dish washer. We had a 80 gallon electric water heater and was surprised that this 50 gallon tank kept up. The only sound we can hear is from the fan and it is not loud enough to bother us. We have owned this for 2 months and have not had any issues. The water can get extremely hot, we had to turn it down.

Problems hours after install

Installed by Sears third party and worked fine but the display kept blinking in sequences of 3 blinks in a row. Called Sears and tech came out next day. Tech was on hold with his team for 1 hour and 19 minutes until they finally authorized something, a full replacement, 4 days later (because of weekend). The water got hot but the blower would turn off minutes after it was on. We (tech and I) believed the high limit sensor was defective and turned it off prematurely, even during low heat setting. Normally the high limit sensor turns off the blower after 145 degrees to prevent the plastic from overheating - this one turned it off at around 120 degrees. Kenmore quality control has issues. Sears wanted a full replacement. New water heater is in and it works fine now. Blower turns off after accomplishing it's task. If you are a handy man, you can easily replace parts shown in the manual. Wow, this heater looks so much like the AO Smith GPVT-50. This replaced my previous AO Smith 50 gallon ProMax (10 years old) 40,000 BTU. Did not want to invest more parts and money in a 10 year old heater. The new water heater's blower is moved toward front of tank requiring new PVC vent parts. The blower is not quieter then the Promax. Got this on sale with rebate from my gas company with 50,000 BTUs.

Great value!

This is simply a re-branded AO Smith water heater. You can't beat the value. Extremely efficient and priced less than the older style non-power vented units when you take the $150 2016 energy rebate into consideration that this one qualifies for.

The warranty is less than non-power vent units due to the blower mechanism but in our area most water heaters don't make it much more than 6 years due to the hard water.

One oddity, I had to set mine to a setting between 'Vacation' and 'Low' because the water was so hot and I have young children.
