Took the cover off under my covered patio to fire up this grill on June 7, 2015. Flames shot up in the middle back, and almost no flames from the burner anywhere else on the cooking surface. the "stainless steel" burner is shot! I inspected the bottom and found the heat shield is paper thin, and already corroded through from drippings. Flames + non existent heat shield and propane tank do not mix. I called Sears and found out I was 1 month out of warranty at 13 months. The burner and shield are warranted longer, but you have to pay for a tech to come out and prove it is broken-$90, or you can buy a service contract for $100. All on a substandard item that has lasted 13 months undercover, and under a patio! Shame on Sears putting the Kenmore name on such a poor item, then trying to steal money from me to replace a warranty item! Don't get ripped off like I did-go to any other store and buy something else. Don't play into the service contract scam-$100 on a $199 grill? Items should be made to last.
Spent nearly $300 on this grill so expected it would last more than one year. After about a year and three months one of the burners is now shooting large flames out the front towards where the knobs are. I cant use it anymore since its obviously unsafe.
Sears customer wants $130 just to look at it, not repair it, when it sells for $200 new now. highly recommend another brand that covers their products more than a year.
It is extremely heavy...required a handtruck to handle the box, then it took 2 people FOUR HOURS to put it together. It also took a long time -- 10 days -- for it to arrive for pickup at our local store.
The information says it comes with Stainless Steel grill plates, but it doesn't--they are cast iron. I called about it because it wasn't how it was advertised. The company that makes the grill told me that they only have cast iron. Sears told me that someone would call me about it, but no one ever did.
The grill plates need to be tempered before you use them. I did that and have been happy with how they work. The grill is substantial; it heats up quickly and I think it uses less propane than my previous one for more even cooking.
This is definitely not a grill you can bring home in the middle of the afternoon and eat dinner from that evening. Maybe if you get it home at 9 am... but seriously, it's a commitment to get this one ready.
Perfect size, well made, easy to use, and a great bargain
I bought this 2 weeks ago. Used my points and bought it for around 130. It was easy to put together and only took me an hour. I have used it for chicken and hamburgers and it worked perfect. It gets hot fast and the temp is easy to manipulate. It stays pretty consistent throughout the process. I also used the side burner and was shocked it worked as well as it did. I cooked my eggs and bacon to perfection on a breezy day. I also cooked french fries on a windy day and it did the job great using coconut oil. So far I am more then happy. I owned a charbroil grill before that was 300 and the side burner sucked so it was hard to use. This one has been great even while using the main grill.
