we needed a freezer but did not want something so big. This product is the perfect size for where we wanted to install it. I also loved the price. I was also able to pick it up that same day.
As stated in multiple other reviews, the 5.1 cu. ft. Chest Freezer quit after a couple of years use and we just finished throwing out an expensive amount of ruined meat--some of it choice grass-fed beef. Absolutely avoid this product. We will never again purchase a Kenmore chest freezer and will be passing on the warning to all of our friends.
It fits nicely in our apartment between our compact washer and dryer. It works great!
I have owned this for 2 years now. Through all the power surges its still ticking. Its the perfect size for my small kitchen and my wife has used it as a counter top against my wishes. But it is still in day one shape. Good Product.
Let's be clear, all the positive reviews for this item are from those who just bought it. I felt the same way when we first purchased this freezer. From a design stand point it is really nice, it has wheels, it has a usable interior shelf because a railing is provided and it has the basket which hangs from the top allowing for extra storage. Unfortunately, mine too failed after about three years. This model is made by Midea for Kenmore. This company makes products such as dehumidifiers under different names. Although the design of Midea products always seems pretty good, the quality is suspect.
After mine failed I started looking on-line for comments on how to fix. Many reviewers replaced several of the internal components with a Supco 3 and 1 RCO410 hard start kit. I'm fairly good with tools and electrical since I like do-it-yourself projects. However, I'm am not an appliance repair person or an electrician. My point is that most people could install this kit. I gave it a try and now almost a year later our freezer is buzzing along working like it did in the beginning. I don't know how long it will keep going before something else goes bad, it could be months or years. However, the Supco kit was around $12.00 so the additional time I'm getting out of my freezer helps lessen my disappointment about it breaking down in the first place.
This is just the right size for any home. We used to have two refrigerators to store meats but since getting this freezer, I can't believe I lived without one for so long. A must have in every home.
I have had this freezer for a little over 2 years, it has always had an ice build up problem requiring defrosting. I went to my basement today the little green light was on showing power to the unit, I had a faint smell of rot, I opened the freezer and all my food had been spoiled, what a disgusting mess. I do not recommend this product as it just quit working.
