After agonizing over this purchase, I am quite pleased with our new refrigerator. A few bad reviews had me second guessing our decision, but after 2 weeks in-house I'm very happy. The best feature for us is more freezer shelf space with the ice maker in the door. The water dispenser has a powerful stream which is good because I drink a lot of water. By the way, I read that the water filter bypass is built into this unit. So if you don't like the Pur filters you could buy an inline water filter and connect it outside the refrigerator. Some of them are rated for 5 years. As far as those bad reviews, the following issues are not deal breakers for me: 1. Units with through-the-door water and ice require significantly more repairs than less complex refrigerators. So, if that feature is not very important to you, don't buy it. If you buy it get a service contract. Our refrigerator is the only appliance that I buy a service contract for and Sears service is reliable. 2. This unit is made for Sears by Whirlpool (as certified in the accompanying documentation) which has the lowest repair rate according to Consumers Reports 2013 Buyers Guide at 14%. However, that still means that 1 in 7 of their units may fail and my heart goes out to anyone in that situation. 3. The noise. They all make noise. A refrigerator is an integrated collection of machines that all make noise. The water dispenser is essentially a faucet. A valve opens and water pumps out. A valve and pump also move water into the ice maker where it freezes, gets chopped up by metal blades and drops into a bin -- all of that makes some noise. I would liken it to a beverage and ice dispenser at a food court. 4. The lights. This is a matter of taste. The LED lights are stylish, dimmer than traditional incandescent light bulbs and take less than a second to reach their full illumination. They're kind of like mood lighting. So, if waiting a second is too long, you should look for a different model.
Refrigerator was delivered yesterday. After over 30 hours, ice bin is one third filled. The noise level is so bad. If the showroom had every refrigerator plugged in and they sounded like this one, you could not hear over the din. It occasionally shuts off, but only for a few minutes. Can't say if I like the interior yet as this noise issue is making me crazy. At this point, I think we are going to have to return the refrigerator. Don't know where to go from here.
This refrigerator is horrible! The ice maker broke (I fixed it) and now it's freezing all my food and I can't turn it down because of the "smart senor" which is NOT smart... it's ruining all my food!
this is the worst product I have ever ordered and received from Sears. I purchased it February 2017 and have had them repair it at least 10 times. mostly ice maker issues all the wires are on the bottom by the freezer door and they ripped apart. my most recent service appointment was last week and they had to replace the whole icemaker. I am so disappointed at this point I'm not sure if I'll ever buy anything from Sears again!!!
I was bounced around between the repair and warranty department. I was given a case number and told a manager would be contacting us in order to take care of our faulty new frig. (After 4 days only made 1 cup of ice). Still no call from manager so we called back and were told it would be another 48 hours before someone would call us, Still no response. Sears does not stand behind its products or takes care of their customers, So this weekend I will go buy a new frig from someone else and tell Sears to come pick up this piece of ****. Last time I ever buy from Sears. I suggest you look elsewhere too!
I had this fridge delivered on Nov 10th and on Dec 29th I woke up to a broken fridge. The fridge and freezer were hot. All my food was going bad and most had already spoiled. I called the parts and service number and was told I would have to wait over 2 weeks to get a service person out to my house!! I have three kids and an 86 year old grandmother I care for. What am I supposed to do without a fridge for that long?!? I asked to speak to a manager and was told it's their policy and I had to wait. I called Sears directly and was eventually transferred to someone from corporate and was told I had to wait until the 16th and no I couldn't get a new fridge because I didn't have 6 service calls yet! Are you kidding me?!?! It's less than 2 months old!!! Worst company ever!!!!
I am a Whirlpool guy. Same color and literally
only a fraction bigger than my 17 y o unit. Some changes over the years. Most are okay and/or I adapted to, so actually 4.5 stars. The 1 electronic button, 3-setting water/ice/crushed ice dispenser is not as convenient as the old push lever style; and new ice dispenser is noisy. The delivered water is not as cold (less in-fridge piping) and hopefully a better water filter is available. Delivery and set-up was professional.
