I've had this grill 2 years now. I've read some of the negative reviews and some of the positive reviews. I have to say for me the grill was an awesome bargain. It was on sale and I managed to get it for less than $500. So with that savings I had it pre-assembled and shipped. It heats up quickly and cooks just great. I make it a point to do a good cleaning on it by removing the grates and soaking them, then scrub them down. I also cut down on flare-ups by cleaning the fire box really good. This keeps the grease build up to a minimum. I use a stainless steel cleaner on the outside and it looks great. I love the storage and the flip up shelf. Over all, this is a great grill. My friends compliment me on it all the time. It just takes some maintenance and some fore site to keep it working and looking decent. This would hold true for just about everything, once you think about it. I waited this long to write a review on it because I wanted to really see how it would hold up. I think it did just fine.
This grill started off fine but deteriorated rapidly in year 2. Could not get heat over 400 and eventually rusted out to the point that pieces were crumbling and falling off. The grill was well maintained and I would categorize myself at more than just the common backyard griller (I've competed and I'm certified to judge BBQ contest). Not expecting this piece to be competition worth as it's for home use but I would expect for the price and the Kenmore name that you would and should get more than 2 years use out of it. Going in the trash this weekend as it's not even worth the rebuild at this point and will not consider Kenmore brand going forward despite it's past reputation
Friends - this grill has a lot of screws and parts to assemble, but look at it - it's huge and it was crammed into a fairly small sized box when I picked it up so I knew it was going to be a serious project. I was a little worried - sometimes the parts don't line up, sometimes the directions are bad - but NOT with this grill. There are about 30 steps to assemble this thing and well over 100 screws (tiny screws) but if you have a decent magnetic phillips screwdriver and follow the instructions in order and step by step, after a few hours of patience, you will have a very solid and nice looking grill. It probably took me about 5 hours to assemble and you need a friend to lift the main part of the grill on the cabinet, but I'm a girl and I managed to do 90% of it myself. The directions were extremely clear, nearly all the pre-drilled holes lined up perfectly with a minimum amount of fussing with it. You need to really look a the drawings and make sure you have the page positioned the same as the parts are positioned so the parts go on the right way and right side. The wiring schematics for the ignitions were the most difficult part for me - I probably could have figured it out but fortunately my boyfriend got home and did it for me (after he was amazed by the fact that I put the thing together myself!). This is a nice grill, great deal, I'm trying to find a high quality cover for it so it will last but the price I paid ($325 at a liquidated Sears store) if it only lasts 3-4 years, I got my money out of it. This is a definite buy as long as you have the patience to follow the assembly directions step by step. It's so well pre-drilled that I only stripped one screw and it was my fault for not screwing it in straight anyway. There are about 5 total screws out of 100+ positioned in a way that you will definitely be saying some choice words on how to contort to get it secured, but all in all, not too bad really. This is a nice grill. There's no natural gas hook up sold with it, FYI. The drip cup is pretty small for a grill this big (will probably buy a bigger one).
Bought this grill and self assembled. Instructions somewhat clear until the end. Grill came without a cook top. So I have a $500 grill without a way to cook on it. Went to the store to get the grill top, and the associate ordered the top. 3 weeks later they cancel the order as item not available. So I still have a grill I can't use, and terrible customer service (in India no less) says to try ****** for the part since they don't have the part! What?!?
