I've had this grill 2 years now. I've read some of the negative reviews and some of the positive reviews. I have to say for me the grill was an awesome bargain. It was on sale and I managed to get it for less than $500. So with that savings I had it pre-assembled and shipped. It heats up quickly and cooks just great. I make it a point to do a good cleaning on it by removing the grates and soaking them, then scrub them down. I also cut down on flare-ups by cleaning the fire box really good. This keeps the grease build up to a minimum. I use a stainless steel cleaner on the outside and it looks great. I love the storage and the flip up shelf. Over all, this is a great grill. My friends compliment me on it all the time. It just takes some maintenance and some fore site to keep it working and looking decent. This would hold true for just about everything, once you think about it. I waited this long to write a review on it because I wanted to really see how it would hold up. I think it did just fine.
This grill started off fine but deteriorated rapidly in year 2. Could not get heat over 400 and eventually rusted out to the point that pieces were crumbling and falling off. The grill was well maintained and I would categorize myself at more than just the common backyard griller (I've competed and I'm certified to judge BBQ contest). Not expecting this piece to be competition worth as it's for home use but I would expect for the price and the Kenmore name that you would and should get more than 2 years use out of it. Going in the trash this weekend as it's not even worth the rebuild at this point and will not consider Kenmore brand going forward despite it's past reputation
Bought this a little over 2 years ago. One evening, I noticed the drip bars were rusting (could see the flames from the burner) so I ordered some stainless steel replacement bars that were not an exact fit but very doable for $14 for 3 vs the $30 apiece for Sears replacement bars. When they arrived, I went to install them (during the daylight) and saw how badly the guts had rusted. The pieces that hold the burners had rusted completely through so the burners had dropped. The pieces that align the flavor bars had all rusted as well. It looks good on the outside but the interior is trashed. No more Sears products, although, they are almost completely out of business anyway.
Had to return the grill to Sears because of multiple missing parts. Sears no longer has parts for grills they sell.
Bought this grill October 1st. Nice grill on sale including $400 in cash back dollars. Not only did I not receive the cash back dollars, the purchase doesn't show up on my Sears account as in store purchase. As if the transaction never occurred. Still working to get Sears to fix this and hold up their end of the deal and award me the cash back dollars.
