Researched this product and this is the best price found. The shelves are glass which was a bonus. The shelves were wire at other stores that were selling this refrigerator.
I'm not sure I've ever reviewed a product before, but I want to make sure that NO ONE takes their chance on this unit. The fridge is a great size, but the freezer cannot stay cold. We had SIX service repair visits - the fan was replaced, the control board, the thermostat - most of the parts. Still couldn't keep under 10 degrees consistently. (would sometimes hover around 20 - not anywhere near the zero it should be) Items in the freezer are "squishy" - not frozen. On the last repair visit, I was told the condenser was "insufficient" and that it would have to be replaced. On a TWO MONTH OLD UNIT. And we were dealing with this issue from the get-go. Thankfully after explaining to customer service that it was going to cost around $300 for parts and several hours and a few hundred for labor (all at their cost, as it is still warranty, but I really didn't want to take off work at 7th time for this) - when the fridge on sale cost way less than that --- they agreed to exchange the unit. The new, exchanged fridge arrived last Thursday. Today, Monday, the freezer in the new unit is hovering around 10-12 degrees. I have three different thermometers that we use to check this - one being remote so we don't even have to open the door to let warm air in. Items in the freezer are still mushy and I guess I need to start the phone calls and service visit parade again - when I'm starting to think this is an issue with this model. So disappointed. I have owned other Kenmore appliances and loved them - but I'm guessing they were different brands than this one is under that Kenmore label.
I bought the refrigerator three weeks ago. The delivery was on time and went very smoothly. Unfortunately the refrigerator makes a clicking noise when the fan runs that worries me. Besides the strange noise the refrigerator is very nice and roomy for it's size.
This is the first time I've left a bad review, but this product is such a suckhole of money and time that people should be warned. We purchased this fridge online from Sears in Feb 2016. In August of 2018, the fridge failed (and so did $500 worth of food). When we called Sears for a repair, the best they could offer was a service call in 2 days. We went with a local repair service that was available the next day. It was diagnosed as a faulty electronic control board, which we replaced. We were told that replacing the control board is like getting a new fridge. $330 and a week later, the fridge failed AGAIN.
The service tech came back and determined that the electronic board was likely defective. The following week, we replaced the control board AGAIN. A week later, the fridge failed AGAIN. At this point, I had taken off work EVERY WEEK in September to be home for the service tech. We had lost hundreds of dollars in food. We simply could not afford any more service calls or repairs. The $500 fridge is now an $830 fridge, and STILL DOESN"T WORK after only 2 years of ownership.
For the last few months, we have had to remove the back panel of the freezer, and manually defrost it so our fridge would stay cold. The benefit of owning this Kenmore product is that we get to do this EVERY 12 DAYS. Every 12 days this fridge FAILS.
I called “customer solutions” today to see if Kenmore will stand by their brand. After talking to several agents, and finally the supervisor, the best they would offer is a discounted service call. This is UNACCEPTABLE. The customer is supposed to shell out more money to diagnose a faulty product that’s 2 ½ years old? Given the reviews, it sounds like even if they replaced it, it would STILL FAIL. I grew up trusting Kenmore as a brand, but this is not the same company. RUN AWAY from this product, and more importantly, this brand. Life's too short to babysit your refrigerator.
Needed electronic control board repair after 3 years.
Delivery was scheduled and ready on Wednesday until they cancelled it at the last minute. They postponed it until Friday because they said the unit was damaged at the warehouse. That Friday, they delivered it with the door opening on the wrong side. I was told this would require a service call sometime next week to fix. I had a tenant without a refrigerator for days so I told them I'll switch it myself
They removed all the packaging except for a couple pieces of packing tape on the side. I looked it over and signed off on it, they left. After switching the doors I removed the pieces of packing tape to find it was covering a row of pointed dents in the side panel which are visible in my setup.
Long story short, I got a new refrigerator with damage purposely disguised to deceive the customer. I give it a second star because the reefer seems otherwise good.
