Defective fans, lemon

Fan behind ice tray started making grinding noise, then went out 2 years ago. 2 years later the refrigerator made a loud hum. First freezer temperature went high, then the refrigerator temperature went high. Sears service could not schedule a service sooner then 2 weeks, not acceptable. A refrigerator is a basic necessity of civilized life. We pay a lot of money for them, and expect better quality and service. I am junking the refrigerator and giving up on Sears.

Delivery & setup

Just bought this refrigerator 2 weeks ago. Took a day off work w/o pay to accommodate delivery date, a week after purchase, but it couldn't be installed because they couldn't turn the valve off to hook up water line to refrigerator, so they left it in my garage. After they left, I sprayed WD40 on valve and could easily turn it off. Called to set up new installation date on my next day off, the following Friday (2 weeks after purchase). Saturday, discovered my work schedule had been changed & I was working everyday this week. I scheduled it for Monday and would have to take another day off w/o pay, so it was set for Monday. Was told if I received an email stating delivery for Monday, then installation would be done on Monday & to call on Monday for the time frame. Did so, was told it would be installed between 10am and noon on Monday. At 1:30 pm Monday, called to ask why the delay. Was told it had never been routed to warehouse to actually schedule an installation for Monday & no one was available to do it that day, they would be out Tuesday to do it. Was furious they had not called me to let me know of the mix up, so had waited all morning and was now going to have to take a 3rd day off, w/o pay, and wait probably another week for the installation. Contacted the store, spoke with the salesman who had done the sale, he said Sears could compensate me for my inconvenience and I could hire someone to install it if I wanted. So did, cost me $75 but at least got it installed. Sears compensated me $50, so that help a little offset the nearly $300 I had lost in pay and handyman cost. Now I am reading reviews on this site stating this model has problems with ice maker and compressor. At least I did buy the extended warranty, so hopefully these issues will not occur, but I will not be buying anything else from Sears. No wonder they are going out of business. They need to hire a different contracting firm to do installations. None of the people I spoke with at the contracted delivery company spoke understandable English, nor did the people that come out to do the delivery and installation.

Don’t buy!!!

I love this refrigerator! It’s a dream, roomy and east to use. However, within a few months the ice maker stopped working, wouldn’t keep ice frozen. After hours and multiple repair appointments it was repaired. Until it broken again. I just dealt with it, I have a full time job I can be dealing with hours and a repair man. I don’t use that much ice anyway. Then it would work, not work, get stuck on crushed..just moody ice. Whatever.

THEN, after about 2.5 years the fridge stops working. Temp is 63. Freezer does work. So I only lost half my food.

I’ve been reading reviews and talking technicians and they all say it’s not worth fixing. The fix may or may not actually fix the issue and won’t fix it long term. Don’t buy if you want a long term fridge!
