I love my Kenmore French door, bottom freezer refrigerator. The adjustable shelves give me the option to use the space more efficiently. The lighting is awesome, the clear drawers and shelves let me see what's in them easily, and the doors hold so much. And it's all at an easy reach. I'm very pleased with the bottom freezer capacity.
We purchased this refrigerator in November 2014, within 3 months the ice maker starts making this loud noise, similar to the sound of a weed eater. You could hear it through the whole house! Still under the warranty, we had Sears come out to fix it, they fix it, then it starts making the noise again. Long story short - they came out 4 or 5 times, then a couple of months go by and the noise starts again! But this time it's one month after the one year warranty is up. I called Sears and they won't fix it, spent hours on the phone with them and they refused to fix it under the warranty and also wanted to charge me a $115 diagnostic fee to see what was wrong with it. Really? You come out multiple times and you still don't know? As you can imagine, I was/still am furious, I feel like I was scammed and we don't have the extra money to deal with this. So we lived with this noise a couple more months then all of a sudden, the ice maker just stopped working. So to sum up, Sears came out multiple times, never fixed it (honestly I feel like they put a band-aid on it to make it work through the one year date so they could then charge me to fix it or try to convince me to buy their extended warranty), and after 15 months of owning it, the ice maker doesn't even work! I never leave reviews like this, but if I can help just one buyer out there then I have done a good thing. Please buyers out there - read these reviews, I am not the only one saying this, don't buy this refrigerator and don't buy from Sears. Sears is just not the same store as it used to be.
Will NEVER BUY A KENMORE APPLIANCE AGAIN!
ACCESSORIES DIFFICULT/EXPENSIVE TO GET: Doesn't matter if appliance works well if you can't easily get water or air filters for it! The Sears I purchased the frig at doesn't carry either the water or air filter. They directed me to the Sears PartsDirect store nearby. The store did not carry the parts but would ship it in and not charge shpping. HOWEVER they would not accept Sears Rewards Points. Online Sears PartsDirect accepts reward points, but charges $25.95 for shipping a 5 ounce air filter to Hawaii.HUGE Catch 22. (Got the water filter online w/free shipping w/the automatic reordering program but didn't know the air filter wasn't eligible...
FAN RUNS CONSTANTLY: Salesperson says it depends how often you open the frig. However, that is not the case. Haven't opened frig in several hours, nothing warm was put it, and the fan is still running constantly.
BLACK DOOR SCRATCHES easily. Says only clean w/damp cloth. Still scratched on day 1
In all fairness, I was given fair warning by all who took the time to write reviews on this refrigerator. I was going to give it a pass when the holidays rolled around and after all the rebates and price reductions, I thought what the heck, I’ll take a chance. Whoa!!! Poor choice. Actually, this thing is so bad I cannot believe this model is still manufactured. I’ve owned it for three years and it’s getting kicked to the curb. Seriously, not a figure of speech. From reviews, we suspected it would be noisy, but the kitchen is a long way from the sleeping quarters. Wow! We still had to shut all the doors to get any sleep. It sounds like a jet on final approach getting ready to land. Wham, thump, whir whir whir and so on. But the real kicker was the ice maker. Or should I say trouble maker.
Before I wrote this review, I checked my email to see how many trips Sears Repair made on my behalf. It was about 10 trips with 23 associated emails. In all fairness, Sears never raised an eye or questioned all the service calls they made in the 3 year life of my service contract. But the lost time was, well lost. The last time Sears Service was here (12/10/18) the technician said we have done all there is to remedy the ice maker. And they really had. The the next to last trip they spent about 3 hours and said it was a complete make over and if this doesn’t fix it, there is nothing more we can do. So I said if this doesn’t fix it, its going to the curb. You know what? That’s were its going. Bottom line…. No mater how much they slash the price stay away. Far away.
After only two years, the ice maker motor has been replaced, but is not not working. Repairs are on going.
They applied this super adhesive plastic to the fridge. The problem is they assembled the fridge WITH the plastic on it, so the plastic is underneath the handles, door frame, individual pieces of the door etc and there is physically no way to remove it all. We had to take an exacto knife just to get as close to the edges as possible. There is also an issue with the freezer- the rotating track comes out constantly and makes a very loud noise every time we open the freezer and cannot figure out how to fix it. Overall very dissapointed.
