I had to replace my KitchenAid 20 cu. ft. refrigerator that was only 13 years old because the part needed was no longer made and I couldn't locate one anywhere. After a lot of research and reading reviews, mostly the one star ones, to see what problems people were having. I decided to try this model. I find it hard to believe how much better this one is compared with my old one that I really liked. It is the difference between owning an old Volkswagon and trading it in on a new Audi. First of all its only 2 cu. ft. larger but holds so much more food that its incredible. Also, the fresh produce lasts three days longer than in my old model. The shelves are well designed so I can store all of my cooking sauces without a problem. I do a lot of Thai and Asian cooking so I have many different seasoning sauces that require refrigeration. My old freezer was bursting with food that I had to almost Jam in. In this one I have so much extra room that I am amazed. I don't think I'll ever have the need to completely fill the freezer. The ice storage compartment is smaller than in my old one but it hasn't been a problem thus far. I will make a full compartment of ice in 24 hrs from empty. I like the fact that I can see and adjust the temperature inside the refrigerator and freezer from the outside. I also like that it has a built-in charcoal filter to keep the air inside fresh and free of smells. It is almost 3 months old and I had had no problems or issues. Two of my neighbors liked mine so much that they also purchased the same model.
Bought this frig in April of 2015. It has had nothing but problems with the ice-maker. Was told by the technicians that it is due to the ice-maker being in the refrigerator portion. The warm frig air leaks into the ice-maker causing the fan in the ice-maker to freeze up and stop making ice. Sears has been to my home 4 times to fix it and it still doesn't work. I asked for a replacement within the one year warranty and was told that it isn't eligible for replacement now because we just exceeded our one year warranty period. Save yourself the aggravation and do not purchase this refrigerator!!
Ice maker breaks once a year due to poor design. And worse, sears knows about the problem and does nothing to satisfy the customer. I guess when you're on the verge of bankruptcy, you have to **** your customers
3 years old and our 3rd ice maker just failed (including the original)...one was a 3rd party knock-off. The refrigerator keeps things cool and the freezer works well This is the shallow model but the space is fine. The shelves are adjustable and contain spills well. Our display panel is slowly burning out; a few of the temperature displays only show partial numbers. It makes the odd popping sound but everything is still working. I'm not confident of the long term reliability; I was expecting something more considering the price.
We purchased a renovated home in November 2018. In our contract, we were allotted a certain dollar amount to pick all of our own appliances at the local Sears. We were talked into purchasing this refrigerator because with the Kenmore brand, the Sears techs could easily come out for any repairs. Well, our Sears closed last week. So... 13 months after owning (and 1 month after the warranty expired of course), water from the filter inside the refrigerator started leaking all over the place. We had to pay $100 for a new part and a local tech to come out and replace the filter's housing unit which was damaged from an apparent defected air filter. The air filter was purchased several weeks prior, DIRECTLY FROM SEARS. It was not ordered online, and it was not cheap... But the tech says it was a "generic brand" air filter and wasn't sure if this fridge even has an authentic part for this. So, I went to the local Patterson's store and ordered the new air filter, and asked that it be authentic... We shall see. The tech warned me not to put too much money towards repairs for this unit, since apparently they **** out after about 5 years. Not thrilled to be having to deal with this after a year... I think we will do our research next time and not just trust the "local" sales guy!
