I had to replace my KitchenAid 20 cu. ft. refrigerator that was only 13 years old because the part needed was no longer made and I couldn't locate one anywhere. After a lot of research and reading reviews, mostly the one star ones, to see what problems people were having. I decided to try this model. I find it hard to believe how much better this one is compared with my old one that I really liked. It is the difference between owning an old Volkswagon and trading it in on a new Audi. First of all its only 2 cu. ft. larger but holds so much more food that its incredible. Also, the fresh produce lasts three days longer than in my old model. The shelves are well designed so I can store all of my cooking sauces without a problem. I do a lot of Thai and Asian cooking so I have many different seasoning sauces that require refrigeration. My old freezer was bursting with food that I had to almost Jam in. In this one I have so much extra room that I am amazed. I don't think I'll ever have the need to completely fill the freezer. The ice storage compartment is smaller than in my old one but it hasn't been a problem thus far. I will make a full compartment of ice in 24 hrs from empty. I like the fact that I can see and adjust the temperature inside the refrigerator and freezer from the outside. I also like that it has a built-in charcoal filter to keep the air inside fresh and free of smells. It is almost 3 months old and I had had no problems or issues. Two of my neighbors liked mine so much that they also purchased the same model.
First one didn't cool to set temperature, even a week after filling with groceries. The second one is having ice maker issues. Worked for four months but now quit. I'm trying one more service call before asking for a different model. This is one of the few counter depth refrigerators at this price point with in door ice and water. At this point, I'd be happier with a properly working model with ice inside and no water. I rarely use the water dispenser anyhow because it comes out room temperature by design. Lastly, annoying but manageable - the stainless is lower quality and must be polished constantly to avoid finger prints.
We purchased a renovated home in November 2018. In our contract, we were allotted a certain dollar amount to pick all of our own appliances at the local Sears. We were talked into purchasing this refrigerator because with the Kenmore brand, the Sears techs could easily come out for any repairs. Well, our Sears closed last week. So... 13 months after owning (and 1 month after the warranty expired of course), water from the filter inside the refrigerator started leaking all over the place. We had to pay $100 for a new part and a local tech to come out and replace the filter's housing unit which was damaged from an apparent defected air filter. The air filter was purchased several weeks prior, DIRECTLY FROM SEARS. It was not ordered online, and it was not cheap... But the tech says it was a "generic brand" air filter and wasn't sure if this fridge even has an authentic part for this. So, I went to the local Patterson's store and ordered the new air filter, and asked that it be authentic... We shall see. The tech warned me not to put too much money towards repairs for this unit, since apparently they **** out after about 5 years. Not thrilled to be having to deal with this after a year... I think we will do our research next time and not just trust the "local" sales guy!
At 2 years old, the refrigerator stopped cooling. Tech says it is the compressor. The part is under warranty, but is on backorder from LG (tech says that all of these LG compressors are failing). Other parts and labor are not under warranty. This is going to cost $1,000 to repair. We paid around $2,200 for this fridge in Sept 2016. I'm sick about it!
Be careful about this unit. The compressor will fail in 2-3 years. All the 5 Star reviewer are the recent customers
We just bought this refrigerator in May 2018 at a good price point. What surprised us at the day of delivery was that the sides of the refrigerator does not have stainless steel, only the doors. Also, when installing the refrigerator, the water dispenser was not working properly taking 3 minutes to fill up a glass of water. We now have a technician coming out in a week to take a look at it so not the fastest service with a brand new product just delivered. So my advice to make 100% sure that the water is flowing correctly if you end up buying this refrigerator before you let the installation guys leave, AND that if your refrigerator will stick out a little bit beyond the doors, that you either get another refrigerator or buy and install a piece of stainless steel on the sides of your refrigerator so the side of the refrigerator and the doors look the same. Will provide an update once they come out and fix it.
Better than any refrigerator I've owned so far. Drawers are on rollers instead of plastic against plastic. Temperature is accurate, lighting is great, too many shelves, ice cubes are smaller than the usual, quiet, and the seal is strong. I'm not sure why so many folks give this refrigerator a one star rating. I almost backed out and am glad I did not.
