This was the best top freezer found that had the space needed and had a few options that most did not, like the filtered water just inside the door and gallon size door bins (did you know that the manufacture recommends not keeping a gallon of milk in the door bins though - what's the point then?). Flaws - Lighting: The lights are on the side in the front, leaving the back of the ref. dark. Also have to have a tech come out to replace the lights if they go out, and it would be very expensive. Freezer Door: Has a built in locking mechanism that is designed to keep the freezer door closed when the ref. door is shut. Manual does not mention this. Problem is that you have to really make sure that you shut the freezer door, as it stops about 6" away because of the mechanism. Makes me wonder if the store knew about these, as lights were not on and the mechanism must have been taken off, the floor model did not have the problem of not shutting. Look: The handles have black screws that show on the side - no white caps to cover, really sticks out with everything else so white. Concerned of only having a 1 year warranty. Have been told by the installers and tech (who came out to tell me the freezer is a design feature and not an issue), that the extended warranty is a good idea - but wow, what an additional expense to this expensive ref. Still bet is it much better than having a repair cost though. I'm also betting that the new appliances don't last as long as the older, less technical ref.'s, and know that the repairs are way more expensive. All of these things can be lived with, just some design flaws in my opinion.
It's terrible, just plain terrible... 1) Right off the bat two years ago the freezer door wouldn't stay shut when you closed the refrigerator door. There's not enough magnetic pull in the freezer door seal to hold it shut when the fridge door is closed a little too quickly, not fast, and not slamming it shut - just a little too quickly. After a whole series of Sears technicians (probably about 8 different ones) stopped by to tell us we didn't know how to close the refrigerator door properly, I got fed up and added a magnetic latch (I'm an engineer) to the bottom of the freezer door, which has mostly solved the problem. 2) The front dents easily, as it is really thin sheet metal. 3) The refrigerator shelves are too wide in this model to be unsupported like they are in the middle. The front plastic part of the shelves are cracking from stress loads. 4) The door tray shelves have also developed cracks down the middle (not sure why). 5) Just today the plastic handle broke off the refrigerator door, the part you hold on to is a substantial piece of metal, however it bolts to the top of the door with a goofy little plastic bracket. I've had it two years, and it's doubtful this thing will last like my old Kenmore did (about 12 years). I think it's my last Kenmore, and probably my last appliance I will purchase from Sears as the service is just plain awful these days. Just my two cents, sorry folks.
Had my old fridge for over 19yrs, it was time to replace it. At first, there was a little hiccup, but things were fixed I love this new fridge. It lets me know if I've had the door open too long. It's also very spacious inside inside. I recommend it to anyone intending on getting a new fridge.
Bought this for my 90 year old parents almost 4 years ago & we all love it. The lighting is great, so spacious, & even has the internal water dispenser. Easy to clean, no issues with cracked shelves. I like so much that I am going to buy this same fridge for my house. Also like that the ice maker has an on/off switch so no messing with lifting a metal rod to stop ice production.
Would highly recommend this fridge for all its amenities & value priced.
First, we started by purchasing (from another seller, not Sears), a more expensive, bells & whistles refrigerator that failed in the first two weeks. Luckily, we were able to return for a full refund. Major fail. After that experience, we shopped again, and decided on this solid performer, with features we need and LOVE IT. Frankly, I think the freezer on the top is so much easier to use! The extra frig-wide narrow drawer in the middle of the refrigerator is a great design idea and allows for so much extra storage! Finally, the water INSIDE the frig makes so much more sense, eliminates need to clean that tray on the outside. Then ice cube tray that can be easily pulled out provides so much more versatility.
