At the risk of sounding arrogant, I own a European-made canister vacuum that cost more than four times what this one did. My husband and I bought this because we had excess Sears points that were about to expire. I never knew vacuuming could be so much fun! It's not as quiet as our fancy vacuum, but it cleaned nearly as well. The small pet fur attachment is sensational! I vacuumed all pet beds plus some velveteen furniture, plus an area rug and hardwood floors. Considering its price, this certainly is a very fine canister vacuum that cleans very well. Yes, I highly recommend this vacuum for its ease-of-use, cleaning ability, not to mention its state-of-the-art looks! Go Sears!
This vacuum was a disappointment compared to older models we have purchased. It's bulky, not user friendly, and the attachments are worse than older models. My advice is to build a vacuum for quality and not price. The same problem develops in all of the models that I have previously purchased. The electrical connection between the wand and the carpet power head start to arc and lose connection. This has happened on the last 3 models we have purchased. Each new model lasts about 1/3 of the time as the previous. The parts are so expensive, it doesn't make sense to replace them. Now I am reconsidering fixing one of my older models if the parts are still available. I would not recommend this model if you have an older model that still works. As far as picking up pet hair, dust, and everyday cleaning, this vacuum doesn't cut it. Consumer Reports gave this model a high rating. I would have to disagree.
For suction and actual cleaning, this worked well for one year. Used about once every day, the floor brush head is wider than most. Changed bags about 3 times in 1 year. Hose swivel on top of unit makes it difficult to easily move around, it tipped over allot. Plastic attachment doors on top of base unit each broke off during normal use. One week after warranty ran out, the motor that drives the beater brush stopped working. Vacuums in this price range should last longer than a year.
