This AC is Fantastic

I was hesitant to buy this based on reviews. For one thing the design must have been changed because the hose now screws on and does not pop off. It cools and throws the air into other rooms. I am freezing. I love it. Purchased June 2016

Don't buy this or any other single hose unit

The unit functioned mechanically, but the design of this and every other single hose AC unit is flawed. In order to work, an air conditioner needs two sets of air input and output flows. One set to draw warm air in over the condenser, where it's heated, and then the hot air needs to be exhausted. The other set draws warm room air in and over the evaporator, where it's cooled, and the chilled air is returned to the room. Higher quality portable air conditioners will have two hoses, so that both the input and output flows for the condenser are drawn from outside the room. This unit only has one exhaust hose, but draws the condenser airflow in from the room. This means you're blowing a considerable amount of air out of the room, but thanks to physics, that air is being sucked back into the room from whereever it can get in - under your doors, cracks in windows, venting, etc. So while the unit does cool down the air it's expelling, it's also sucking just as much hot, humid air into your living space as it's expelling out of your window. Think of it like trying to run up a down escalator - you're moving but you're not getting anywhere. The unit did cool down the bedroom 5-7 degrees over the rest of the house, but did not budge the humidity at all - it stayed at 70-80% despite dumping many gallons of water into buckets. This makes sense, since it's drying the air but just sucking more moist air into the room. In short, you have a few choices: 1) Buy this or any other single hose unit and have it run constantly to chill your room a few degrees and maintain high humidity. If you're lucky like me, it'll also dump a bunch of water all of your floor, soaking your carpets. 2) Spend more and get a two hose portable unit that'll actually cool your room, remove the humidity, AND consume far less energy because it's not sucking hot air back into the room being cooled 3) Get a window unit which operates effectively the same as a two hose portable unit or a regular whole house air conditioner.

Will fit in places a regular window a/c unit can't. Better deal than the big box hardware stores. High quality. Powerful. As described. Recommending.

Buy it!

There are several contradicting reviews, so I was honestly concerned. Let me tell ya, in comparison with my LG 8000 BTU portable a/c, this product is far superior! It's way quieter and cools lot quicker. Window assembly could see some improvements, but it works. I conclude that most of poor reviews are due to consumer's lack of assembly skills or expectation of premium quality for entry level a/c. In my opinion, they beat the competition by far.

I'm going to buy a 2nd one!

The only things that I can complain about are things that are related to my apartment complex's choice of Windows as it is slightly awkward to place the sliding window connector for the AC intake tube.

The machine itself is fantastic. For the past 2 or 3 weeks it has kept my home free from sweltering heat and allowed me some peaceful sleep as I am unable to easily fall asleep war/hot.
