Horrible cook top

I hate the cook top on this range. I've had glass cook tops over the last 20 years in different houses and recommended same to my friends. THIS IS THE WORST. They call it glass but doesn't feel or act like it...It scratches!!!!!! I never had a glass cook top scratch and this is only a year old. I've never had a glass cooktop that you couldn't just spray and wipe (windex or whatever). Not this one, it smears. You have to use the cream. I never had a cooktop that took me more than 5 minutes to clean, even with the cream. This one takes 15 and is NEVER quite clean without a smear unless you spend half an hour on it. This is more trouble than its worth and it's supposed to be less trouble than a standard range. It is not.

Stay away from this stove

|

I replaced all of my kitchen appliances in August 2018 with Kenmore Elite appliances from Sears. The Sears store has since closed. I didn't purchase the extended warranty since I'd had Kenmore appliances for 20 years with no issues. My stove is not this exact model but is very similar except with an induction cooktop (model # 95073). Right after the 1 year warranty ran out, one of the burners on the range started randomly beeping. I could make it stop if I spun the dial so it was just annoying. As the months went by. the beeping escalated and got so bad that I had to sleep with my bedroom door closed because it would just start beeping in the middle of the night. About a month ago the burner started to spontaneously turn itself onto the highest setting and heat up. It is an induction cooktop so is not supposed to heat up unless there is a pan on the burner. One night I left a tea kettle full of water on the bad burner. In the morning I found that all of the water had boiled off and the burner had burned the bottom of the kettle and the entire cooktop had cracked. My stove is a model # 790.95073 and I did some research. It turns out that the Consumer Protection Agency had done a recall in 2009 of a similar model because of this very issue. The stoves were deemed a fire hazard. There was a class action suit against Sears and Frigidaire since the actual manufacturer of the unit is Frigidaire. When I call Sears they said they couldn't do anything until I paid $99 to have a tech come out and check out the stove. The tech came out on 2/21/2020 and gave me an estimate of $934 to fix the stove or told me to buy a new one for $1300. This is totally unacceptable since the unit is a terrible safety hazard. I called Sears again to complain and the customer service agent said they could do nothing to help since my warranty had expired. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told one wasn't available but someone would call me back. I am still waiting for that call. I have called so many numbers (Shop Your Way, Kenmore, customer care, technical help, etc) and can't seem to get any help. I was also under the impression that since I used my Shop Your Way credit card to make the purchase that this would extend the warranty by one year.

I have sent emails to Sears customer complaint dept. (searscares@searshc.com) and to the contacts at Sears Headquarters. I also contacted the Consumer Products Safety Division to file a claim and called the Sears Shop Your Way credit card to see if they had an extended warranty as part of their card. So far I am only getting the runaround. The Kenmore service department did fill out a form with my complaint but told me they would not help cover the cost of the repair or replacement stove. Right now I have this unsafe stove in my house that could burn my house down and no one at Sears or Kenmore seems to think this is worth bothering with.

BAD RANGE OR UNTRAINED EMPLOYEES

|

I was delivered this range along with washer and dryer and fridge. I go to pull in the stove and its not working. Then I get on line to chat with the person that comes up in the chat box and they apparently think that im a electrician because he said

Farris,
Thank you for waiting!!
The **** you turn to control the stove burner temperature slides over the shaft of the infinite switch. If the switch burns out, your burner won’t get power. Test the infinite switch if you know the burner and burner socket are good but the burner still won’t heat. We removed the back panel to access the infinite switch. Your range may be different. With the range unplugged, test the switch with a multimeter set to RX-1. If the meter reading remains the same, the infinite switch is bad and should be replaced.

THEN

"I would suggest you to Check 240 V. electrical outlet. Please Connect the range to the conforming electrical service following local code using a new 240 V."

And to top it off He tells ME >>> You can contact our Sears Home Delivery Department at : 1800-732-7747. Hours of Operation: Mon - Sat 6:00 AM - 11:00 PM, Sun 6:00 AM - 11:00 PM, CST.

Excellent Stove

|

I bought this stove online about a month ago. Wanted some time to use it before reviewing the stove. First off the stove came very well packaged with no shipping damage. After about 30 minutes of setup. The stove was ready to use. I have cooked multiple things in the oven and on the stove top. Cooking is even and quick. Turbo boil is great. the steam cleaning function is great. The oven is nice and large. The racks in the oven are nice with the hand holds built into the racks. The convection bake and roast are really nice. Over all this range is a great. I would recommend this range to anyone who needs a good solid range with good features.
