I purchased this range to replace a glass top. I have been using a Kenmore glass top for the past several years and decided I prefer the coil burner. I could not use my cast iron skillets on the glass top. I have found this coil burner heats faster.
We purchased this item based on the excellent reviews in December, 2015. All we have used it for is boiling water. When boiling water comes in contact with the stove top, there is a thin coating of a substance I assumes is supposed to be a protecterant. It melts in the shape of any boil over that may be encountered. Sears has replaced the top once, and the same thing occurred. The top was also easily scratched by the bottom of an aluminum pot. It is a serious design fault. Although the cooking functions tested (boiling water) appear adequate, it is stamped out of very thin material and the appearance of the top is easily marred. The drip pans also readily discolor. It remains to be seen if Sears will stand by the warranty.
ORDERED THIS ITEM 7/4/18 GOT IT 8/6/18 AND IT WAS DAMAGED, WHEN CALLING TO GET A REPLACEMENT CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS NOT HELPFUL OR DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON. AFTER TWO WEEKS OF TRYING TO GET A REPLACEMENT I EVENTUALLY WANTED A REFUND BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT SEND ME A NEW ONE... ITS BEEN A WEEK SINCE I ASKED TO CANCEL MY ORDER AND STILL NOTHING! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!!!
This range is okay so far, the only things i see is the storage draw is small i wish it was a little larger and the top of the stove is thin coated and looks like it may be easy to stratch or melt but over all its better than the smooth top i had to return because it was so delicate and i couldn't use my cast iron skillets on it, but this coil unit is better for me
Love my stove
While the general function has not been a problem, there are two weird problems with our display board. We have had the stove not longer than six months, and about a month ago, we noticed that the temp began displaying C instead of F. Fine, we looked it up and fixed it. Then the clock display would simply cut off. At first we were able to reset and it would hold. Now, as soon as it's set, following product manual instructions, we press start, and it cuts off. We don't HAVE to have the clock, but it's nice. One other cosmetic issue is the drain pans. Ugly "stainless" color. We bought black replacement pans at the hardware store to improve the look. But what gives with that clock display? It's a fine stove though.
