In the past 10 years, I have had a Dyson and a Shark vacuum. Both worked ok. The Kenmore Elite 31150 vacuum picks up pet hair (I have 2 cats) without issue.
I did my research at Consumer Reports and other review places. This vacuum is really rate great. I got this for my birthday on April 14th and when I put it together the agitator would not rotate in the Carpet position. With the power off I could not even rotate it. My wife called support on 4/20 and the first staff person determined it was defective and transfer to another department that did not carry through on the replacement. I did the same on 4/21 with a similar experience. I never experienced service that was so terrible in they thought it was a lawn mower and could not keep straight it was a vacuum cleaner and a new one at that. I am currently still working with Sears and today I contacted the State of Wisconsin Consumer Protection Agency.
Well, after 6 years of trying, my dog still can't use this vacuum cleaner! Pet friendly is not an accurate description.
Vacuum works well, but I have to use it.
6 years in, the direct drive has stopped driving as well. Also wish the cord was a self winder.
It's great vacuum for carpet and rugs however it under-performs on tile. We've learned there's no point using it on tile. Regardless of the height setting it will not pick up debris on the grout between the tile. Also the flexible vacuum hose will pop loose from vacuum motor section about every 15 minutes, I have to keep an eye on the hose too ensure it is tightly attached.
Great suction. Downside is the hose for attachments. Durable but way to short. If you use the attachments frequently, you will be disappointed. The vacuum as an upright is great.
