Excellent

This washer, and it's accompanying cavernous dryer, are highly efficient, quick, and quiet. The steam does make noise at times during in the cycle, but this is only for short periods of time. Clothes are much cleaner and brighter than any previous top loader and older, smaller front load machines. Have owned for five months.

Horrible service and washer not as good

We bought Kenmore Elite washer, pedestal washer, dryer, and pedestal storage in metallic silver, alongside two hose kits on Black Friday. On December 11th they were delivered, but the pedestal washer was in white, this was not the color we ordered and so they took it back. We then called Sears about the issue and that's where the nightmare began. They would send us back and forth between people, none of which helped us. They refused to deliver our silver pedestal washer nor would they return our money, after some time we noticed that they started adding to our total by doubling the tax. Not only did they not give us our money back for the pedestal washer, they also doubled the tax. They also took hoses that we bought as a kit for the washers which cost about $20 dollars. Apparently the salesperson made a mistake by ordering it in white, and now Sears wants us to pay the current price even though we bought is during a Black Friday sale. Why should we pay for the current price if we bought it on sale seeing as it was the sales person's mistake, shouldn't the sales person fix his mistake? Today is the 27th of December and Sears still hasn't helped us, nor has the salesperson. When purchasing the item, the salesperson told us that Sears has a 30 day return policy and only after we made the purchase he told us that there is a 15% restocking fee which they wanted to charge us even though we never actually got the item we ordered. The customer service has been absolutely horrible and I plan to never shop at Sears again. Adding to all this we had Sears shop points for $100 off of our purchase, but when we tried to redeem them, it refused to work and now the points expired. I contacted Sears about the points, but they again refused to assist. After having the washer for less than a month, it started making banging noises, but I am worried that Sears will be of no help. A note I would like to add is that when we contacted Sears we were told to talk to the store manager, but whenever we try to contact the store manager, nobody picks up. We left messages, but there aren't any responses. We can't go directly to the store as it is nearly 140 miles away. To summarize, we don't have our pedestal washer even though we paid for it, they are trying to charge us a 15% restocking fee even though is was the salesperson's mistake, they doubled our tax on the total, they took our hoses that we paid for, and the now machine is making banging noises and we have nowhere to go to. This is just as good as a scam and it's no wonder why Sears is going bankrupt.

Second Time Purchasing This Set

|

My first Kenmore Elite washer and dryer stayed with my home when it sold. I love this set so much, I purchased it a second time for my new home. Look no further for a quality, quiet, multi-setting washer. Highly recommend the matching dryer as well.

Almost burned my house down

|

We have had this machine since 2015. We were doing some laundry while decorating for Christmas last weekend, Smoke alarms started blaring all over our house!! The washing machine had ignited on the inside while washing!! The flames were coming out of the back but we could not get to them. Flames finally melted the fluid dispenser so we could use our fire extinguisher to put the flames out. Fireman said it was a faulty control board. Costumer service has given me the run around on more than one occasion so I guess I'm stuck with a defective machine and terrible customer service. BEWARE same model still for sale today

Washer catches fire

|

I have owned this machine for 5 years with no real issues except a little load during spin cycle. Today the machine catches on fire with tons of black smoke rolling out of the top and filling my house with smoke and a smell that doesn't go away easily. Sears wants to charge me $80 now to come out and look at it. I have no interest in replacing with another Kenmore elite. Now I have a dryer and 2 stands that do me no good now. I will no longer buy any products from a company that almost burned my house down and then want to charge me to fix it.

5 year review

|

Bought this in December 2014. Has worked well, does a good job cleaning our clothes. No complaints there.
The drum or motor bearings have become noisy, so I am not sure how much longer it will last. At five years old, a repair is probably not economical. We also have chronic problems with mold on the door gasket, even though we tamp it dry and leave the door open after a load. My feelings are bittersweet, which I guess is common with many front loaders. I would recommend this washer based on cleaning performance (5 stars) but deducted two stars for the pending bearing failure. My opinion is that a household washer should last 10 years.
