I was going to buy a kitchenaid classic plus but then saw this kenmore elite ovation. I read the reviews and despite a few negative reviews about the heavy glass bowl, the short cord, and the plastic lid I went for it. It’s not cheap and not cheaper than the entry level kitchenaid mixer but the design is a lot better in my opinion. First it’s a few inches shorter, and can fit on the counter under your cabinet, even when it’s tilted back! That’s not possible with even the smallest mini kitchenaid artisan 3.5 quart. This bowl is 5 quarts and has a lump in the middle so that stuff wouldn’t get stuck unmixed in the middle of the bowl. The chute to dump ingredients in is wonderful, no messy kitchen after you are done, just take the spout out! The hooks are metal and pretty non stick.
My husband bought me this mixer for Christmas. It was missing a piece I called the number in the handbook and did not get any response. I couldn't understand if the voicemail was saying it was Kenmore. I then called Sears and got the run around and ended up getting the case escalated. They then told me I could only return it not exchange it. The Sears woman told me they would give me a $5.00 credit for my missing part even though it was a $38.00 part. Save yourself the hassle and buy a Kitchenaid.
This is the most incredible stand mixer! I actually purchased this as a gift for a family member, and the day finally arrived where I could give it a try for myself. My first use for this mixer was to whip egg whites. The included egg separator worked great. The whipping attachment reached deep down into the egg whites within the mixer's glass bowl. The bowl is perfectly shaped for this machine. I only stopped the mixer once to scrape the inside of the bowl, but it really wasn't necessary. The whipping action was superb. I also loved being able to add sugar through the mixer's pour-in chute without creating a mess and without turning the machine off. My second task was to whip heavy cream, and it came through with excellent results. I am really excited to tackle more substantial tasks with this mixer in the near future.
The splatter guard does exactly as advertised and kept the work surface around the mixer completely mess-free. Cleaning the mixer and its attachments is also a breeze.
The sound of the mixer while running is very pleasant. It isn't too loud, but it is still quite powerful. One helpful tip: Don't bother slowly stepping up through the speed settings on this mixer like you have to do on other mixer brands. Just turn the dial immediately to whatever speed setting you require, and the mixer will rapidly yet gradually step up the speed until it reaches the speed you've selected on the dial.
The mixer sounds powerful and is very well made, but it isn't overly loud at all. It's a true pleasure to use. I watched Sears' video that mentions the Black Hawk helicopter as being the inspiration behind the design of this mixer. The careful thought and engineering that went into it is really quite amazing. This mixer is another thing to add to my list of reasons why I love the Kenmore brand.
This is by far the best mixer we’ve ever owned.
I am totally in LOVE with this mixer. Can't say enough about it. It blows away the competition! It's genius.
