Easy to Organize
Overall, we're very happy with this model of refrigerator. We would recommend it to others, and want to pass on some of our thoughts and opinions. Delivery and installation - Sears delivery was prompt and without issues. They removed the old refrigerator and brought in the new one. No easy task. Both were heavy and bulky and two guys literally lift the units with straps and walk them out or in. The units were too big to get past the front door without opening the refrigerator doors and doing some tricky maneuvers around the door opening. Still, the crew did it with no damage to anything. A lot of work and a great job. That being said, the delivery is basic. The delivery crew removed a large amount of the tape and plastic protection on the refrigerator, but this unit is so well protected that I spent another 45 minutes taking the remaining tape and plastic cover off. The delivery also doesn’t include connecting the water line for the ice maker and now I know why. Although no fault of Sears or Kenmore, my existing water line wouldn’t screw on correctly and I spend several DIY hours replacing the nut and compression connector on my existing plastic water line to finally get the water line connected. Once the water line is connected, it still takes around 30-45 seconds (maybe less, but it seemed like a long time when I was still wondering if the water line was connected correctly) before water comes out the front panel. Just push for 5 seconds, wait, push for 5 seconds again, wait, etc. until water comes out. It’s in the instructions that you read about a day later. After installation, here are my Pros and Cons. Pros – this is a beautiful appliance and looks great in our kitchen. The black shows some fingerprints, but really no big deal. There is a LOT of space and the internal LED lighting is modern and very nice looking. The ice maker doesn’t hold as much ice as the older units, but it is stored on the door and gives you two full upper shelves for freezer storage. I’m amazed at how quiet it is. I would compare the motor noise to the ballast noise of maybe 3 or 4 fluorescent light fixtures. This is definitely a huge improvement over our old fridge. Cons – The plastic drawers feel pretty frail. Adults sliding these in and out will have no problem, but I can’t say the same for children. The plastic is nowhere near as thick and durable as our old fridge. Also, you have to remove the front, bottom grill before you can roll the unit forward. It rolls backwards with no problems, but the grill catches on the floor when you want to roll forward. Once I figured this out, I could roll the unit back and forth with no problem.
We purchased this refrigerator and had to have it serviced before we owned it 1 year. Luckily, the 1 year warranty covered it. Like a previous person stated, we have had cracked and broken produce doors...they are very flimsy and will just crack and break. One of the clear trays on the side of the fridge door had to be replaced...all within a YEAR! We are currently continuing to have problems with the freezer not making ice and the ice bin not shutting due to continued build up of ice along the sides. It is a real pain to have this refrigerator. We expected more from a Kenmore Elite. NOT happy with this purchase, service or warranty of it.
Not a single problem in 15 years with my last Kenmore refrigerator. My new 3 year old refrigerator will have its second repair today and cost me another $100 in bad food.
I bought this fridge last June with the extended warranty because the general quality of appliances has gotten so bad it is almost worth it to find a 30 year old fridge.
So it was not a big surprise to find a big puddle of water of underneath the 8 month old fridge. I am not surprised that Sears is going to disappear soon. It will get fixed but it's very annoying.
The ice maker clogs every other week so I have to empty the ice bin and wait 24 hours to get enough ice. Nice to know that you can spend $2200 on a fridge to only last 8 months
This fridge *****, When purchased after one year it stopped making ice, just having it for 3-4 years it has been freezing everything in the fridge, and it stopped completely working last night. I would not recommend it at all.
We bought this refrigerator a year and a half ago, and it has already broken twice. We have the sears warranty on it, so when it started smoking 6 months ago, they came to fix it- it happen that the motor went on it. It was a year old. Then, the door cracked- yes you read it right- the door cracked. And the glorious warranty that I have on it does not cover the broken door. It is a year and a half old. Garbage garbage garbage. No wonder sears is having financial problems and this world is so polluted. I have to throw out a year and a half old refrigerator? Garbage- not too sure if I made myself clear enough.
