I have had a Kenmore refrigerator similar to this one for years and love it! I needed a new one for a beach house and looked around before going to Kenmore, just to check, and nothing gave me the space that the Kenmore gave. My old one didn't have the water/ice dispenser but wanted it for my new one. Unlike other refrigerator this model still allows space on the door with the dispenser for water bottles & soda cans. I love this one just as much as my other one and really like the black stainless!
11 months after purchase it stopped working. After throwing away a few hundred dollars worth of food, made a call to Sears support. 12 days later tech showed up, figured out the compressor was dead and let me know it is under warranty but my out of pocket cost shouldn't be more that $250. I made it clear I would be paying nothing and any costs would have to be paid by Sears. He continued to try as get me to pay something but finally gave up when it was clear that wasn't going to happen. Now ten days later (post tech appointment) we recieve a call stating the part is on back order and they would have the part no later than 21 days after it was ordered. Then clarified that was 21 business days. Then they can schedule the install of said part, the same one sears shows in-stock on their website. When all is said and I will have been without a refrigerator for about 2 months. This will be the last appliance I buy from sears.
This +29 CuFt (really an LG Brand) is highly Flawed and we just replace it after only 4.5 years of use. We had continual issues which started about 8 months into service. In a nutshell, we replaced sensors, the ice maker fan (due to building up ice and shorting out the fan & main board we deduce), the main electronic board was replaced 3 times, had a full compressor replacement (this process took multiple service calls which also included having the incorrect compressor delivered which totaled 4+ weeks without a working refrigerator), and now we have a blocked suction tube with the recommendation of a "kit", aka band aid, to run a new suction line through a drain hole at a cost of ~$450 labor.
We're now buying a new (non-LG and non-Sears) refrigerator and done with the drama of empting out all the contents of the refrigerator or freezer and pulling off the internal panels to thaw the iced up evaporators. Although I'm on a first name basis with the service techs that I've come to like over the past 4 years our relationship is coming to an end.
As for Sears’s service (the only service company in my area that will touch a Kenmore) we have been less than happy. The waiting time is usually 2+ weeks even if you have a non-working appliance. And I’ve learned to never take any appointment that isn’t the first appointment of the day. I’ve had the afternoon appointment and they didn’t show up or call. When I called in to find out where they were, the appointment arrival time had been bumped to later in the evening. After a no show still, I called again and found out that the appointment had been changed to a couple weeks later. I guess you can provide that type of performance when you’re the only game in town to service Kenmore.
Bought this refrigerator exactly 3 years ago for over 2K. First ice maker and now the fridge stopped working today. Sears is selling LG junk, do not buy from them. Pay more and go elsewhere. -10 Stars.
This beauty arrived 10 days ago. The “black stainless” finish is very user-friendly. No fingerprints visible so far. The sides are black enamel standard appliance-type finish. This works great for me because I needed a place to put my calendar ;-). The fridge has lots of room in well-organized fashion. The freezer is even more impressive! How did we function with our wimpy side-by-side freezer?? We have no regrets about this purchase :))
After ten months of use, this refrigerator has stopped cooling. I found a swampy stinky mess in the freezer last Sunday night. Now it's the following Saturday and after more phone calls to more people than I care to count, we STILL do not have an appointment for a repair man to come to the house. It's still under warranty and we even paid $400 for a three year protection plan which hasn't even gone into effect yet. I think I want my money back on that. Lot of good that does when you can't get someone to make a service call. They tell me it's because the purchase wasn't in the computer properly. I was told it was supposed to be rectified. Apparently it wasn't because still no one will schedule a service call because they can't find our purchase in the computer. I was told the manager of the repair dept would call me, first within 24 hours, then I was told that was not correct, to give him 48 hours. I did. No call. This is the 7th day of living with coolers and bags of ice leaking everywhere while that very attractive but non-functioning refrigerator (and we paid more than the present sale price) sits there taking up space. Needless to say, the family Easter dinner has been cancelled. We've had to throw away so much food it's ridiculous. I tried to save what I could but didn't have room for all of it. We've had bad experiences with Sears in the past but "got over it" and shopped there again. I think we've learned our lesson this time. I just can't believe the lack of response.
Do NOT buy a Kenmore refrigerator! We paid top dollar for a Kenmore Elite Refrigerator model 73157 in May of 2017. A year and 2 weeks later the compressor goes out. Since we were 2 weeks out of warranty we had to pay around $700 to fix with fridge and it took 3 weeks to fix! Countless phone calls to repair people from India that we could hardly understand. We thought it was probably just a random bad compressor....WRONG. This morning, Feb. 2019 about 19 months later the compressor blew AGAIN. I will not spend another dime on this fridge. It is going straight to the scrap yard. It looks beautiful but is a total piece of junk. DO NOT BUY A REFRIGERATOR FROM SEARS. Please, do yourself a favor and find a different brand.
Wish I could give zero stars!
