Very nice refrigerator

I am not one to write reviews but felt compelled to do so for this product because of all of negative reviews I have read on both Kenmore and LG refrigerators. I have come to realize that perhaps more people who purchase products and have problems write reviews more often than those who do not. Otherwise I think we would see thousands of reviews that may provide more positive feedback. With that being said, I have owned this refrigerator for just three months (we renovated our kitchen) and have been very pleased with it so far. I will update this review if I have issues down the road. Some of the issues I read about were: noise, problems with the icemaker, freeze-ups and difficulty opening the freezer door. The refrigerator does make a different sound than the one I replaced. I would describe it as a higher-pitched hum but it is very quiet and no louder than the Kenmore refrigerator I replaced after 17 years (and still working). I did not want an ice maker with a dispenser because of all of the problems I have been reading about. However, most higher-end refrigerators come with dispensers. What I have learned is most of the issues are because people don't use them enough. If ice sits for a long period of time it will meld together and cause problems with dispensing. If you don't use the ice maker enough, you need to empty it on occasion so to prevent the ice from melting together over time. The freeze-up issue is a known challenge with several of the refrigerator brands, including Samsung. I am hopeful design changes over the years has fixed this problem. Lastly, the freezer door does require some effort to open but is not problematic. I suppose if you are physically challenged this could be an issue. Overall, this is an awesome refrigerator with a lot of great features. The ice maker/dispenser is probably the best feature, despite my aversion to having one. It is also the nicest looking refrigerator in this market segment. The only criticism I have is that the interior layout of a counter-depth refrigerator does take some getting used to using. I also strongly recommend that you read the owner's manual to familiarize yourself with the proper use and care of the product, which will help avoid problems later on as this is not your "plain-vanilla" refrigerator and some ownership involvement is necessary.

I bought this refrigerator 1 1/2 years ago and it's broken. Called the service center and out of warranty. The technician that came to the home told me these refrigerators are junk and that I should buy a new one. I just spent $3,000 on something that should have lasted several years. Faulty circut breaker and other parts. Now I am out of pocket more money. I would never buy anything Kenmore or from Sears if they will not back their products.

Buyer beware

I purchased this refrigerator 22 months ago and last night the compressor died. Compressor is running and hot but producing no cooling. Called Sears service this morning and was quoted 2 weeks for a tech to come out even though I live near a major city. I've used Sears service in the past and they came out in 48 hours. This is totally unacceptable. No wonder they are going out of business. It's a shame as the temp control in the fridge and freezer is outstanding. Yet another of a long list of LG compressor failures.

Seal system broke in less than 2-years

In less than 2-years the refrigerator stop cooking.  Called kenmore to notify them that it is a seal system problem per a couple of appliance repair companies,  including Sears home services. Kenmore routes me to sears hone services which then say I need to go to my sears home warranty which then says that it is a manufacturer defect that is still under warranty so it is not covered.  I been getting the run around just to fix this refrigerator for 3 months.  Yes, 3 months!!!!  It has been a nightmare.  Sears, kenmore and sears home warranty all one company and they cannot help me.  I even got hung up by the customer services rep because I can’t get them to escalate it to a supervisor.

Expect failure in 12-24 month

Purchased Feb 2017, Aug 2018 the condenser and compressor were diagnosed as failed by Sears technician. Technician indicated this was a very common problem with this model. They are LG parts. The parts were replaced on Sept 11, 2018 and the refrigerator only worked two days before it quit cooling/freezing again on Sept 14th.
