Good Idea

The set was awesome. Although what would be even more awesome if Lego were release a Lego Star Wars Tie Bomber set. The last one was in 2003.

Wings

|

To start off this set is great, it is a beautiful design and it just looks great. It is an addition to my moc that is just a must. The mini figures are great additions to any army.
But with everything there is a down side, the wings are not attached on properly, of you shake the tie fighter on its side the wing falls out, a huge inconvenience for both play and just moving it around as the wings can just fall out. I am planning on removing the default connection and using technic to be stronger0
Pros: beautiful design
Great minifigures
Cons: wings are not attached properly

A good little build

|

Previous Lego Tie Fighter models have suffered with unstable wing hinges leaving a fragile ‘look, but don’t touch’ display piece. This model however has overcome that issue entirely and has added some cool little design features in the process. The build itself is fun to do albeit with some understandably unavoidable repetition on the wings. The main unit has some great access and detail; I genuinely think this is the best Lego Tie Fighter to date; despite the wing design being incredibly similar to previous models, I still got a kick out of the clever use of parts to get the details in them. For what you get and the overall size of the model the price is just about right too.

Doing Justice to this Piece of Design History

|

I bought this beautiful model after watching The Force Awakens for the second time.

TIE fighters are up there with Darth Vader, the Death Star and the Millennium Falcon as one of the instantly recognisable staples of the Star Wars universe. I had never owned one in Lego before and after the magnificent space battle scenes of The Force Awakens I figured I'd waited long enough.

This model is a delight. It is a rare example of almost-minifigure scale which gives it a very imposing feel, and the cockpit holds both pilots (or Finn and Poe...) very comfortably. The intimidation factor is also helped by the striking red bricks and beautiful black-on-grey colour scheme, which I actually prefer over the original grey-on-black Imperial TIEs.

The inclusion of a Technician and Officer are very nice touches, though I do feel that a set of this size deserves a named character to go along with it. Maybe Finn in his Stormtrooper armour and Poe would have been good additions, but with that being said, the boys who do come with this set are excellent.

The new pilots are everything I expected them to be and more. The helmet moulds are great and the breathing tube is flexible enough that I'm not worried about it snapping off by accident.

The set does include three blasters rather than four which is forgivable. There doesn't seem to be anywhere purpose made to store the pilots' weapons, but that is a miniscule gripe.

I have no complaints about this set, but a word of warning - the wings come off a little easily!

My kudos to the designers of the original TIE, the First Order TIE, and of this set. Great work all around.
