Decent Fridge with a few minor issues

Bought this to replace my 20 year old side by side. Everyone raves about their french door fridges so I thought why not? I used Consumer Reports to guide me but honestly there are so many choices that CR has not reviewed, and the reliability ratings seem to be as much dependent on the MODEL as they are on the brand, so getting a reliable appliance these days is a bit of a **** shoot. Anyway, I ended up with this on. It's large, but it fit in my compact but brand new kitchen. I ended up buying a 5 year warranty, mostly due to the fear tactics the sales people use on you these days. CR had one bit of advice I will follow next time: SELF INSURE! I spent $570 on the 5 year plan. If I had just banked that I'd probably be ahead even if I had a breakdown within 5 years. The really sad thing is that we have come to expect that new appliances will never last as long as "classic" appliances. And the more that people buy extended warranties, manufacturers get the idea that it pays to offer shorter warranties. Marketing 101 IMHO. Anyway, about the fridge... I have only a couple of minor complaints so far: 1. This model does not have the "lift up" freezer handle to open the freezer. And the magnetic strip holds it tight to the frame. This means you have to tug pretty hard to get it to open, vs. the easy lift of the newest models. Yes, it has the "tilt out" feature, but that's not the smoothest operation either. I'd rather have had the lift up handle. 2. The push back shelves are a nice feature, but after a couple weeks, I just raised the right side one to allow tall bottles to fit under. using the push back feature did make room in the front, but then you have to shuffle bottles around to reach the stuff that's behind them. I guess this is not a complaint, more of a use case... 3. Inside the fridge is a "pantry drawer" that is temperature controlled. My issue with this is that it's full width... you have to open both doors to get to this tray. It would have been better for it to be split so that you could use the space with just one door open. 4. The replacement water and air filter are expensive. Hopefully I will be able to find low cost ones on the Internet. And while the water filter is probably pretty standard (?) I worry about availability in the long term... 5. The door mounted ice maker is a trade off... yes it clears space inside on the shelves. but at the same time, it reduces space in the door. If you like having lots of storage on the doors for your condiments and a few beer bottles then this might be a consideration.

Would not buy another LG fridge

Just had to replace the compressor. The refrigerator is only ten months old. Noticed that the ice maker was not working and that our frozen foods were starting to soften. Had to start throwing away items for fear of getting sick when eating them. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great Features

This refrigerator was purchased two weeks ago and we’re glad we did. It has a quiet ice maker, a door within a door, bottom freezer, and a lot of bells and whistles inside. The refrigerator was on sale and was a great buy. I didn’t go wrong in making this purchase.

Cooling System Broken

Temperature in freezer won't go below 35 degrees. It has been like this since the power went out for about an hour during a storm last week. It is barely 3 years old. Smartdiagnosis app can't figure out the problem and LG phone rep suggestions haven't fixed it. I'm afraid it's the compressor. I really loved this fridge until now. Disappointed with the Quality

I cant understand why the parts are breaking and cracking my side door part cracked, the freezer draw cracked and the wheels came off.
I cannot move the freezer draw any longer. The water bottom plate cup holder turned colors. The ice cubes and trays are very small. Very dissatisfied. I need to replace all the parts that are broken [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great features

We have had this refrigerator for about one month. Love the smaller ice maker that allows some shelf room for smaller items. I love the freezer door because I don't have to struggle to open. Just pull up and it opens. Love the door in a door for easy access, energy saving, easy to grab and go items. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
