These shelves suck. I'm very disappointed in them. With all this talk about them being heavy duty and holding 5000 pounds, I expected them to be heavier and have a sturdier assembly. I tested them with 620 pounds evenly distributed on the middle top shelf. one of the self beams twisted in a bit and one of the vertical columns sipped in it's mount. This is because the columns are in two halves and they are sheet metal sitting on sheet metal end to end as if that is a stable platform. It would have been better if the columns were a single piece All of the metal on this shelving's system is thin and flexes easily with your hands. If you put one hand on the shelf and push a bit, you can see the beam supporting the shelf flex. I pushed on the bottom shelf beam with my foot to try to shove it in it's slot better and it bent.
I ordered two shelves. The boxes for both were open when they arrived. It wasn't because of UPS. The reason the boxes were open is because the cardboard they used to package them is too thin and not dense enough to support the weight of the product. Because of this, some of the paint was rubbed off of the beam. There was no internal packaging to keep the contents from rubbing into each other either.
There were no directions. Although the shelves are easy to put together, I wanted to consult directions because I had a hard time believing the sheet metal end to end stacking mentioned above.
Also, be ware that the middle shelf is not adjustable because it is used to hold the column halves together.
The shelving is nice(seemed a little flimsy when assembling) but as it went together it got sturdier and sturdier. Frame locks together solidly. Was able to use through bolts to bolt 2 of these units together and used the frame assembly holes to attatch it to a wall in my shop. Worked Great and adds lots of storage. Only complaint I have has nothing to do with the product, but is regarding the shipper. Items arrived with almost destroyed packaging, had been walked on(boot prints visible), and the strapping that specifically states on packaging do not lift by straps had been lifted by the straps enough that half of them were broken and left them behind my wifes car in the car port so she couldn't have used her car if she needed to. Shop Your Way - might discuss this with your shipping company! There were also minor bends from shipping handling - I was able to straighten them out and am still happy with the shelves! Need 2 people to assemble, took approx. 20 minutes each.
The Sales Person that helped me with this, showed me the description as METAL, I asked if the shelves were metal. He said the description said yes. I don't know how the descriptions could be so different. I would rate this minus 2 stars if I could. Chip core was damaged, it won't hold what I need it to hold. Vertical metal in 2 pieces and not safe or sturdy. Took the shelves to the dump the same day I opened the box. It wasn't worth the cost of shipping to return it. Should be discontinued!
Should have paid more attention to the details on this one. Very cheaply constructed, shelves are 1/4" particle board which received some damage in shipping and during assembly. The side vertical rails that everything attaches to is not one continuous piece but two separate pieces that are held together by rivets, one on the top, one on the bottom which are held in place by slots that face down. No thoughts about gravity on this one. The only thing that keeps the top half of the shelf from falling is the where the two 1/8" steel vertical rails meet. If the top were to slip past the bottom, your shelves are coming down. Instructions were poor. Nothing about this shelf was impressive. Worst product I have ever bought from Sears, and they should be ashamed they even offer it.
excellent product. Easy to put together, holds a ton or more, and not bad on pricing, either.
