Tried several bikes out at various places and reviewed them on the internet and reviews at Sears.com. Bought it online and picked up at Sears. Then the fun started. I'm pretty good at putting things together and their manual is great and easy to follow. I think whomever engineered this should have taken a person off the street and watched the problems they had. Dropped several bolts and an allen wrench into the flywheel area and had to get them out. Would be nice if the wiring harness was a few inches longer to make the hookups easier. Got frustrated the first day and quit the assembly and completed it the second day. Probably spend about 3 hours doing it altogether. Assembling the Upright and Top Shield would be easier if they used slotted screws instead of allen bolts. You can only turn a small amount before having to re-orient the wrench. Once assembled it's a great bike. Nice and smooth with plenty of options. I would recommend the bike, but pay someone to put it together.
I am very disappointed with this bicycle and the service I have received from NordicTrack. First, within a month of operation, the main panel died and had to be replaced under warranty. I was shipped a replacement but had to replace it myself. The biggest problem, however, lies with the extremely cheap pedals supplied. These are the same pedals from the previous model and NEED to be redesigned. I have gone through three sets of pedals all because of the same design flaw. The CHEAP plastic mounts on the inside of the pedals which hold the foot straps on have broken. These snap off leaving the foot strap hanging loose. This has happened three times to both pedals in a period of four months. Today I called to report it again, only to have the customer service I spoke with tell me that this would be the LAST replacement they would send me, even though I have eight months left on the warranty!!! I told her that I have a size 13 shoe and it's bigger than their pedal and the strap does not fit well and she countered back that the size of my shoe was the problem so I was not covered under the warranty!!!! Come on....a size 13 is not that big, the pedal is too small and the design is too cheap!!! This will be the last NordicTrack anything I will ever buy. She told me that it was my fault because my foot was too big and it was not a manufacturers' fault...I told her it was a design flaw and SHOULD be covered under the warranty, which she AND her supervisor denied. While some parts of the bicycle are better than the earlier model it needs a lot of improvement (like a more comfortable seat and a way to remember seat and user settings) and is not worth buying. Even if you consider it, think hard about the "warranty" or the lack thereof and the poor customer service I have encountered. Again, the last NordicTrack equipment I will ever buy!!!
Other than the rattling noises while riding, the unit seems solid and well designed. Only real complaint is the iFit module drops my strong internet signal frequently which makes the daily workout rides with Google Maps very aggravating. Requires multiple starts and stops before connecting properly.
Great bike. Smooth ride. Easy to assemble, need 2 people though. Only had for a couple weeks but haven't had any issues yet. If I do I will come back and let you know!! Great job on the price match!!
I am surprised at the good reviews for this bike on this site. ****** sells a similar NordicTrack recumbent bike that describes the issues I am having with my GX 5.0 Pro perfectly:
The first week I had the bike the belt was slipping. I should have just called Sears returned the product, but it seemed to go away. I got about 5 months usage out of this bike before the belt slips on a regular basis now, leaving the bike useless.
NordicTrack give instructions in the manual for how to resolve this issue, but you need a special tool to even get to the area they are talking about. Since I had Sears assemble the product, I don't have much knowledge on how to do this. The right shield will not come off because the crank is in the way,so I can't get to the belt to even attempt to fix it.
After all of my frustration with this bike I just decided to join a gym. It is a shame that this bike turned out so badly.
I am not one that usually leaves bad reviews, but it it saves one person $600.00 it is worth my time.
