This bird feeder does keep squirrels from eatting the bird food. It also works for pigions. The Perky-Pet Red Barn Bird Feeder is made well and looks good. It was well worth the money that I payed for it, and I got a pretty good deal too.
The squirrels stay away from this, but so do the birds. We've had it up for several weeks and no birds have come even though we had a number of birds at the feeder we replaced with this one.
I just got my Perky Pet squirrel proof bird feeder yesterday. I hung it with an angle type hanger similar to a hanging plant hanger on my wooden back yard privacy fence which is within 15 feet of my back sliding glass door, so I have a great view. Here in Fort Walton Beach Florida we have a large population of grey squirrels. I love to watch them do what they do. I bought the feeder just for the pleasure of seeing them being foiled at getting into it. First day so far so good! They are highly intelligent animals though and will most likely figure out a way to get into it eventually. Until then I'll enjoy watching their antics!
The feeder seems to be very sturdy and comes with a bottom mount so that you can pole mount it if you choose to. It holds 10 plus pounds of birdseed. Very pleased!
This is my second since i've lived here since 2000. Work wonderfully, fills easily when using a large funnel. The weight of the squirrel keeps them from getting to the seed and monopolizing, so the birdseed lasts much longer. It is durable and can be kept out all year long. Above all it,s look great on my deck.
I've had it up for a few weeks and the birds discovered it quickly. But then so did some other creature. It didn't come with any directions so I cannot figure out how to make the top stay on! It supposedly screws into the opening on the bar that runs across the feeder from front to back. But I can't see into the feeder to line it up. Therefore, one morning when I looked out the window, the whole metal roof was on the ground and most of the seeds gone! I finally wrapped bungie cords around it. So does anyone have an ideas about how to match up the screw with the hole? Thanks.
