Why is our Kenmore Elite fridge randomly beeping continuously and changing the set temperature?
Report This
We have a Kenmore Elite Trio 3-door refrigerator model #795.75196401. The electronic thermostat on the door mounted digital control panel is not holding the set temperature. It will intermittently start scanning up and down, changing the refrigerator temp. setting and beeping with each change. It is not the door ajar alarm and unplugging and re-plugging doesn't help. I've seen posts on other sites from other people having the same problem, more often with the LG twin to this Sears model. This constant beeping is driving us nuts! How can we fix it?

AnnMarie, changing the board didn't work for me either. I still haven't tried the above instructions..I hope to get to it this weekend. Let me know if you have any luck.

Angela, replacing the board is not complicated. Remove the cover to access the board and just make sure all the connections are in the right place and making a tight connection. Be sure to disconnect the power before replacing the board. Lissa, if the display is doing the same thing on your refrigerator, the board will also need to be replaced. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful.

The main board # 6871JB1280P which is located behind the unit will need to be replaced. This board controls the functions of the display board. Also make sure the unit is plugged into a 3 prong wall outlet that has a good ground. If it's not grounded, that could be the whole problem. This board is available at

Hi Scott, I have the same issues with my Model 795.75559401, is that part number for the board the same for my fridge?

Mine is doing the exact same thing. We were using the water locking button but I swear it unlocks itself (unless it's one of the kids) and sometimes it wouldn't lock again. I'll be watching this topic! Let me know how it goes.

I have the same problem. It started about 2 months ago and I found this website. I went ahead and ordered the part and installed it very easily about 3 weeks ago. Tonight it started beeping and changing the temperature again. Could I have gotten a bad board? We've had this refrigerator for about 5 years so I wouldn't think the grounding would have changed over this time period? Any other thoughts?

AnnMarie, I'm sorry you are having this problem. Yes, it could be a defective board but before replacing it again, make certain it's plugged into a good three prong grounded wall outlet. Also check for loose wire connections at both boards and also the connection under the cover of the top door hinge. I'm attaching a picture of how to access the dispenser. Be sure to disconnect power before checking the wires and connections. I hope this will help you.

So sorry I haven't responded sooner. After changing the board and the beeping started again, we just locked it again. Then my Dad came to visit and I had him help me remove the front panel where the dispenser is to make sure all of the wires were connected well. We agreed that the wires were connected well and replaced the panel. BUT, since then (Feb 2012), we have not had any more issues with the fridge beeping. If it happens again, I will try doing that again and hope that is will help again. Thanks for all the ideas and help.

Same here. Sears parts could not find that part over the phone but I had the repair dept come out and they were able to order & replace it. And you're right, no more issues :-)

Well, it looks like I will have to replace the board for the 4th time in order to maintain sanity and do away with the beeping. I am wondering if anyone has figured out how to simply remove the "beeping" device? We have had our refrigerator for 7 years and it has needed more repairs than a 1970's Fiat. What a waste of $. Rather than replace the board, I am just going to replace the refridge with a basic unit without all of the bells and whistles....especially the bells :)

Not sure why the many symbols where place in my message above....although they are very appropriately placed given my frustration with the refridgerator.

All standard warnings apply make sure you disconnect power to the refrigerator first . This is a destructive method to remove the speaker you will not have any warnings from the water and ice panel in the future . The pros out there aren't going to like to hear this. It is absolutely free. Would not suggest doing it on a new refrigerator still on warranty. 1. Remove the water and ice tray at the bottom of the water and ice enclosure. 2. Remove the two screws at the bottom of the enclosure. 3. The hole dispensing unit will come out caution of damaging the clips up top. 4. One single connector remains, disconnect it to remove the dispensing assembly. 5. You will see a small black round speaker, Yank It Off the control board with a pair of plyers. Reassemble in the order you disassembled.

My Trio model #795.75542401 was beeping all weekend and just stopped beeping. Do you think I need to replace the board? I have had the fridge for 15 years without any problems. Is it worth replacing the board. Thanks for any assistance you can offer.
