I need to adjust the speed of my snowblower

Just bought a new craftsman 22 inch snow thrower model 247.887791 It is very slow and I want to speed it up. How can I adjust the speed?

At the end of this thread, Stuart mentioned that he changed the pulley size. I found an easy way to achieve the same 80% increase in the pully off the engine by relocating the thin spacer between the two pulley halves. First take the main bolt out. I needed to use vise grips to keep the assembly from turning while loosening the end bolt, and move that small spacer from between the two pulley halves closest to the engine, to just in front of the same two halves. What this effectively does, is move the existing belt further away from the drive shaft. It's the same as if you put on a new bigger pulley. With the drive assembly on the wheel axel on a spring, you can still use the existing belt, which fits nicely in the modified pulley assembly groove. The spring on the assembly on the wheel axle allows the belt to adjust to the new location, without the need to get a new belt. You'll be amazed at the improved performance. If it was like this right from the factory, you wouldn't have noticed the poor speed setting. I had also modified the ends of tow of the impellers by screwing on a small piece of rubber side wall from an old tire. The snow flies 20' now, doesn't bog down and has no trouble with the increased speed. Hope this helps anyone else struggling with this issue.
