Whirlpool washing machine
Report This
We have a washing machine that stopped spinning. My dad told me it was probably the belt. After speaking with parts management I was told my washer has no belt. I then chatted on line with Luis. He mentioned a switch that is located on the top of the machine, there isn't one. So he said that it was probably the timer located under the panel. We have no clue what we are doing. The machine itself was purchased in 97 by my grandfather who has since passed. We have no owner's manual. We took the back off, than realized that we should flip it. When we did there was a rubber band (which we thought was the belt) that was just hanging there and is a bit coroaded, but still has spring to it. The model number to the machine is LSQ9244EQ0. We don't know what to do! Please help. We would like to do this on our own to save time and money.
Thank you in advance

It can be frustrating trying to diagnose an appliance. Especially when you know nothing about the washer or what can cause the issue. Below I attached some links that will be helpful to you and your situation!

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.
If your washer agitates but quits running when it reaches the drain and spin cycles then it likely has a broken lid switch. The lid switch is located under the main top and when the lid is lowered at short little plunger located under the bottom of the lid will protrude through a small opening in the top and strike the lid switch. If the lid switch has failed the washer will not run at all in order to drain and spin. If your washer will drain water; it does not have a broken lid switch. If it drains but won't spin would likely indicate a worn clutch or a broken brake release lever.
I added a YouTube video showing how to
access and replace
the lid switch. I also added another video showing how to
access and replace
the clutch.
The lid switch is part #3949247 and the clutch kit is part #285785 which can be ordered from

I'm probably wasting your time since this was posted 9 years ago, but just in case someone else with the same problem needs help, I wanted to clarify something. That belt you found was actually a "sound dampening ring". This youtube video helps to explain it:
