Garage door won't close in cold temps

Older (15 yrs) Craftsman 1/2 hp belt drive garage door opener will not close when outdoor temps drop into the 40's. It started to happen last winter. With the push of the remote in the car or from the wall mounted unit, the door starts to close, but stops instantly and the lights blink as if there is an obstruction.

This only happens when the temps drop. The door works flawlessly in warmer temps. It was fine all summer long but has started giving us problems again for the last two days now that the overnight temps are dropping here in PA.

I have not made any adjustments to the sensors since it started to happen again.

Why is this only happening in cold temps and what can I do to fix?

Thank you!
