In a nutshell: eat like a caveman. Personally I stay away from carbs and refined sugar - but don't think I could cut out the dairy or the whole grains like the paleo diet suggests. I am my leanest and healthiest when following the south beach diet, which is pretty much paleo + whole grains + dairy.
I have a friend who switch to paleo a little over a year ago as a way to combat lupus - and she is currently symptom-free - so there are definitely healthy benefits.
So without further ado...
Eat animal protein sources, vegetables, fruits, and naturally occurring, high-quality fat sources.
Try to stick to grass-fed, organic, pasture-raised meat and poultry and wild-caught fish and seafood.
Eat tons of fruits and veggies.
Enjoy a wide range of naturally occurring fats, including coconut products (milk, flakes, butter, and oil), avocados, olives, and olive oil.
Avoid all gluten and grains, including wheat, rice, corn, quinoa, buckwheat, barley, spelt, and oats.
Avoid all seed and industrial oils, including canola, soy, and corn.
Avoid dairy, including milk, cream, half-and-half, cheese, and yogurt.
Avoid all processed and packaged foods.
Avoid all added sugars and artificial sweeteners.
Hope that helps!
