Why won't my chainsaw stay running?

I have a Craftsman chain saw Model# 358.351240 with a 24" chain. It cranks right up, then dies after a few seconds. I have to keep pulling out the choke and pushing it back in to keep the motor running. What is broke? (Carb kit, hoses, air filter. ??) I also have a small plastic hose, (2-1/2" long with a filter in the end of some type that is broken off. What does this do? Also, when I pour chain saw blade oil in it, it just runs out on the ground. I need a repair manual and apparently, Craftsman does not offer one. Help Tom
